I honestly don't get what all the fuss is about with *Wide Open: A Novel of the Old West*. Can someone enlighten me? I'm clearly missing something here. Is this supposed to be a great Western novel? Because I'm not seeing it.

I absolutely couldn't put "Wide Open: A Novel of the Old West" down! I loved it! Larry Bjornson's writing is captivating. The descriptions are vivid, the character development is wonderful, and the non-stop action kept me reading late into the night. A truly great Western novel. <3 If you're looking for exciting book reviews, definitely check this one out!

I absolutely loved this book! What a fine first effort by Larry Bjornson. I especially appreciated how he wove in the developmental history of Abilene, Kansas, filling it with dialogue and plot lines that felt incredibly real. This isn't your typical cowboy story. Based on real events, "Wide Open: A Novel of the Old West" by Larry Bjornson unfolds in Abilene, Kansas, during the 1870s, following young Will Merritt as he comes of age. With Wild Bill Hickok serving as marshal, the town is a powder keg. On one side, you've got cowboys trying to sell and ship their cattle, and on the other, settlers are trying to carve out a new life farming the rich soil of the flat plains. Through circumstances beyond his control, Will l...

I read the book blurb a while back and really wanted to dive into *Wide Open: A Novel of the Old West*. I even entered the Goodreads giveaway, twice! Didn't win, so I just bought it. And honestly? I'm disappointed.I was promised, or at least I thought I was, an epic Western, a real showdown between cattle ranchers and sodbusters. A young guy caught between the wild life of cowboys and the tough, dusty world of farmers. A family fortune built one way, hiding a big secret. What I actually got was ...

Larry Bjornson's debut novel, "Wide Open: A Novel of the Old West", is a fantastic read. I devoured it in just two days. It's both engaging and humorous, with eerily transporting descriptions interwoven with fast-paced action. It's a coming-of-age story filled with conflict and resolution, loss and gain, love and tragedy. Will Merritt's father played a key role in developing Abilene, Kansas, into the premier town where Texas cattle were exchanged for Eastern money. But in the summer of 1871, Me...

I just finished reading this book, and I had to write about it immediately. It's a real shame I stumbled upon *Wide Open: A Novel of the Old West* as I was moving across the country, because I ended up having to read it in little snippets. Normally, I would have devoured Larry Bjornson's *Wide Open: A Novel of the Old West* in a single day because it completely pulls you into another world.I was hooked after just a few pages, thanks to the beautiful and evocative language Larry Bjornson uses to ...

I won "Wide Open: A Novel of the Old West" in a giveaway, and I'm so glad I did! I absolutely loved this book, and I was genuinely sad when it ended. It was one of those books that's hard to put down. Larry Bjornson’s novel has action, adventure, romance, and a touch of mystery, making it a truly captivating read. The shorter chapters are a real plus for me – they make it easier to pick up and put down when you have to stop reading frequently. What really stood out was how well-written "Wide Op...

"Wide Open: A Novel of the Old West" delivers everything I crave in a book: compelling writing, believable characters, and a captivating story. As a bonus, Larry Bjornson's novel also offers a healthy dose of suspense that keeps you turning the pages, historical insights into a crucial period in the American West's development, and, most importantly, it left me feeling enriched – grateful to have encountered Will Merritt, his family, and the many other individuals who inhabit the pages of "Wide ...
