3.5 ⭐️ I really wish Goodreads allowed half stars sometimes. Rounding up this time. Jess is a struggling actress working as a waitress to pay the bills. When she gets stuck by a dirty needle cleaning the diner bathroom, her mind races, knowing she needs medical attention. But everything changes when she gets home and finds a five-year-old boy hiding in the bushes near her apartment. A series of events forces Jess to protect the child, and soon they're on the run from dangers she never saw coming...

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 1/2If you picked this up specifically for the werewolves, you might be barking up the wrong tree. It's paws-sible that the title, "When the Wolf Returns" by Nat Cassidy, was meant to throw us off the scent, but howl are we ever supposed to know?I'm kidding, of course, but the truth is, this book isn’t really about werewolves in the way the title might suggest. It's about so much more, and it accomplishes that 'so much more' with incredible effectiveness. This is Nat Cassidy at his ab...

Let's kick things off with a bit of good news: the afterword is a total banger—hands down, the best thing about this book. If you ask me, it’s the only ten pages worth bothering with out of the whole 420.Now, about the actual story: This has got to be the absolute worst book I've picked up this year, and honestly, it might crack my top five of all-time worst reads. I saw so many of my Goodreads buddies slapping five-star ratings on it, and I was seriously wondering if we'd even read the same boo...

Oh my goodness! Nat Cassidy's "When the Wolf Returns" scared the living daylights out of me—more than the sum of all the horrifying horror movies and books I’ve ever devoured. And it’s not because of gore, gruesome imagery, or jump scares. It’s the raw, emotional terror of the situations these characters face… the slow, creeping fear that grows deeper every time a character you’ve connected with meets a haunting end.
This isn’t just a horror story—it’s about facing your own fears head-on. "When...

So, Jess, a struggling actress, finishes her diner shift early, heads home, and finds this disheveled little boy hiding in the bushes outside her apartment. She gently coaxes him out, and with her quirky sense of humor, gets him to trust her enough to tell her he's in deep trouble, which means she probably is too. That's when all hell breaks loose, courtesy of the boy's violently unhinged father.Jess has no choice but to run, kid in tow. But is anywhere really safe from the guy hunting them, who ...

AM I CRYING RIGHT NOW?? 😩 Okay, this is officially my favorite horror novel of the year. (I listened to an advance copy of the audiobook, and it was incredible – seriously well done.) It kicks off with a punch and keeps the intensity cranked the entire time. The plot is a total rollercoaster: fast-paced, emotionally gripping, terrifying as hell, and, surprisingly, laugh-out-loud funny at times. I don't know how Nat Cassidy pulls it off. I will never miss a book by Nat Cassidy for as long as I l...

You're damn right I'm giving it 5 stars. I'm so hyped for everyone to read Nat Cassidy's When the Wolf Returns. If MARY was my love letter to unreliable narrators, J-horror, gialli, and serial killers, and NESTLINGS was my homage to 70s paranoia, vampires, and potboiler thrillers, then When the Wolf Returns is my nod to those 80s action horror paperbacks—the kind you'd grab at an airport or supermarket. It's a full-throttle chase novel, packed with twists and turns that'll keep you guessing. Plu...
