4.5/5 stars. Thomas: The Deptford Histories, Book 3 was my absolute favorite in the series when I was a kid, and honestly, it still holds up perfectly today. It is easily the most varied, exciting, and—dare I say—messed up installment of all the Deptford books (though it definitely gives The Final Reckoning a run for its money), featuring some of the best settings in the entire saga. Even if there is one specific moment where a character makes a monumentally stupid and incomprehensible choice no...

It has been four years since the fall of Jupiter, but all is far from well aboard the Cutty Sark. Thomas Triton, midshipmouse, is haunted by horrific visions of the past: storm-tossed seas, brutal battles, lost cities, and terrifying heathen gods. Now, the time has come to face the most chilling memory of his youth and a dark, dreadful secret... While well-written, Thomas: The Deptford Histories, Book 3 follows the exact same pattern as The Oaken Throne, and I truly hate seeing something descri...

The final installment of the Deptford Histories trilogy, and perhaps the weakest of the three? Even so, it remains a total blast to read. Taken as a whole, the series is brilliant—a dark, often brutal young adult fantasy featuring mice, rats, cats, and other creatures navigating a Game of Thrones-esque world. It’s packed with evil cults, dark magic, power struggles, betrayal, ancient prophecies, ruined cities, and deep bonds of friendship. While the series definitely leans into blood-soaked, gra...

There are so many references to earlier books in the series that I’m not sure how easily a new reader could jump into Thomas: The Deptford Histories, Book 3 as a standalone, but it remains a gripping yarn. By this point in his career, I feel like Robin Jarvis really knew his audience and exactly how far he could push the boundaries. This installment feels noticeably darker and more violent than any of his previous outings, and the ending is easily the most morally ambiguous of his work to date. ...

Following the huge success of my Locus Quest, I hit a bit of a snag: which reading list should I tackle next? Variety is the spice of life, after all, so I’ve decided to mix things up and juggle six different lists at once. This book lands squarely in my 'FINISHING THE SERIES!' list. I absolutely love a good series! But I’m terrible at starting new ones before wrapping up the old ones, so this list is all about finally crossing those unfinished series off my shelf. Growing up, I was a massive ...

I haven't read the previous installments in this series, but Thomas: The Deptford Histories, Book 3 by Robin Jarvis was a surprisingly entertaining read, even for a story centered on mice who act just like people. If you're looking for a unique fantasy book review, this charming tale is definitely worth a look.
