Time: everyone knows it's precious. On Discworld, the Monks of History manage it, siphoning it from time-rich zones (like the ocean floor – what's a codfish doing with it all?) to bustling cities where time's always short. But when the world's first truly accurate clock is built, Lu Tze and apprenti...

"Listening was an art she had perfected over the years. If you listened long and intently enough, people would tell you more than they thought they knew." *Thief of Time* is a fantastic book that resonated deeply with me, instantly becoming one of my favorite Terry Pratchett works! The great writer shares his reflections on the timeless theme of the essence of Time, narrating one of the craziest and funniest stories from the Discworld... The plot is filled with intriguing adventures surrounding...

Who would have thought that time travel with monks could be so much fun? Complicated, but fun. If you're looking for a funny fantasy book review, check out this video about Terry Pratchett's *Thief of Time*:

This book really takes off – no pun intended! – when Susan Sto Helit, her grandfather Death, and Ronnie Soak get more involved in the plot. The section with the monks making their way to Ankh-Morpork does lag a bit, though. The Auditors' evolving antics are absolutely hilarious, even if they're a rather bleak reflection on human nature. Once again, Terry Pratchett delivers an imaginative story that manages to be funny, sad, and deeply touching all at once. I've only given *Thief of Time* three s...

Reread in 2025.
Discworld books are my warm, fluffy, comforting blanket.
I always find a story that makes me think, laugh, and feel.
I especially love the treatment of the Auditors in *Thief of Time*, even if they make me think about work ☺️. If you're looking for a great fantasy book review, look no further than Terry Pratchett.

The Auditors didn't quite grasp the true potential hidden within seemingly wacky teachings, even if their manifestations have never been all that sexy. In Terry Pratchett's *Thief of Time*, master and apprentice – the wise old man employing unconventional and seemingly strange teaching methods, concepts, and ultimately achieved abilities – are driven to show what they're really made of by those good old Auditors. It's well known that many ideologies, especially religious teachings, should always...

*** 2026 reread - In another review of Joseph Conrad I said that if fans were surveyed about the author's books, and we divided a pizza based on everyone's favorite, large groups would rally behind *Lord Jim* and *Heart of Darkness* (I’m an *HOD* guy), with some honorable mentions, most notably *Victory* for me. I think I did this with Vonnegut too: a solid crowd going with *Cat’s Cradle* and *Slaughterhouse Five*, while I'd be a little different and choose *Breakfast of Champions*.Here we are w...

Okay, so I wasn't head-over-heels for Lu-Tze, or the History Monks, or even the whole Glass Clock storyline... BUT, because this is a Terry Pratchett book, it was super easy to find loads of other things to obsess over. - Like this conversation between Susan and her granddad:"They're going to mess with time? I thought they weren't allowed to do that."NO. BUT HUMANS CAN. IT HAS BEEN DONE ONCE BEFORE."No one would be that stu---"Susan stopped. Of course, someone would be that stupid. Some humans w...

Re-read: 1/29/25Strangely enough, even after multiple readings, I find myself loving *Thief of Time* more and more and more. Or is that more divided by two but then squared by 72, for the number of average heartbeats per minute? Ah, never mind, I'm just gonna stand here and spin little flowers of time until somebody puts a broom back in my hand.Truly, this one just gets better with age. Or if not, age, because I'm stuck in an endless now, at least a function of one moment of age.And with that, I...

I could parrot what all the other reviews say about this book, but I won't. You absolutely *should* read *Thief of Time* for five solid reasons:1. Susan Sto Helit (seriously, one of the best characters *ever* created)2. Terry Pratchett's personification of Death is just iconic.3. The ingenious and frankly hilarious use of chocolate throughout the novel.4. Mrs. War – need I say more?5. One of the most spot-on and relatable descriptions of a school classroom, ever put to paper. If you're looking f...

This was my first taste of Terry Pratchett's genius. Being a huge Douglas Adams buff for years, I'd come across Pratchett's name countless times, but never actually got around to picking up one of his books. I chose *Thief of Time* because the premise grabbed me, and when I got home and looked at the jacket, I realized it was part of the "Discworld" series. A little anxious about where to start, a knot formed in my stomach when I found out there are thirty-two Discworld novels, not to mention fo...
