I went into this expecting a story of badass witches kicking Nazi ass, and came out with a newfound appreciation for motherhood. Unexpected, yet very welcome. 🥹 If you're looking for witchy book reviews, definitely check out Morgan Ryan's 'The Witch Resistance'!

4.5 stars! This was so good! Incredibly addictive, well-written, and truly original. I became completely engrossed in this story that blends history with a capital H and fantasy. Packed with action, twists, and strong, endearing characters, this novel is a perfect compromise between two genres that blend much better than you might think. I especially appreciated the originality of the fantasy aspect, with the organization of the witches, their magic... everything was so well done that it became ...

WOMEN — 😭 Okay, but seriously. "The Witch Resistance" by Morgan Ryan just hits different. Like, gut-wrenching different. I'm not even kidding, I was an actual mess reading this book. Seriously considering adding this to my list of best witch bo...

3.5 stars "A historical fantasy debut set against the backdrop of World War II, where a witch journeys to find a book of unspeakable power before it lands in Nazi hands."Lydia Polk is second in command for a coven of British witches during WWII. She is tasked with harnessing her magical powers to recover *The Witch Resistance* before it falls into Nazi hands, who will use it to promote their evil purposes. Lydia befriends Rebecca and Henry, who is alluring and handsome. Things get complicated by...

The Witch Resistance started strong but sadly lost me along the way. As a big fan of alternate history, I was hooked by the first few chapters. The cameos from real historical figures and the intriguing power struggle within Lydia's coven were great. I especially liked the political angle. But once the story moved away from the coven politics, it lost its momentum, and the middle section felt like a slog. While Rebecca and Henry had potential as supporting characters, they never really became ful...

I went into 'The Witch Resistance' by Morgan Ryan thinking it would be right up my street—witchcraft, WW2, fighting Nazis? Sign me up. But I came away from it feeling a bit let down. Plot-wise, it's a decent enough story, but it didn't exactly blow me away. I was picturing a coven of witches using magic and espionage to fight back against the Nazis, either on the front lines or infiltrating their ranks—but it sounds like all that happened off-screen right at the start. Instead, we follow Lydia...

4.75 stars, rounded up!Yes, please! This is exactly what I'm looking for in World War II historical fiction. It's been missing from my reading list, and now I've found it.I absolutely loved the main character, Lydia. She's loyal, stubborn, and so easy to connect with. Her companions, Henry and Rebecca, are equally admirable. As you'd expect, *The Witch Resistance* is full of heartbreak. War is ugly, and the book doesn't shy away from showing it. Morgan Ryan doesn't sugarcoat the violence, death,...

4.5/5 This debut historical fantasy blew me away! Thank you so much @bantambooksuk for the amazing ARC package. From the first pages, this novel exuded such confident writing and a strong sense of time and place that I knew it was going to be a fantastic read. The action starts right off the bat, but the character development is blended so well that they didn’t suffer for it, and I really connected to them. Set during WWII, Lydia, a witch of the Royal Academy in Britain, joins Henry, an art c...

Thank you to NetGalley and Viking Penguin for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is a debut novel. Now, for many of us, that statement might make us approach a book with some hesitation. I'm guilty of starting debut novels with the expectation that they'll be a bit rough around the edges. But, wow, Morgan Ryan absolutely blew me away with this one. There are so many things I want to rave about in The Witch Resistance.First, the plot. I read the synopsis and was immediately hooked. A y...
