For as long as she can remember, twelve-year-old Emily Windsnap has lived on a boat. And, oddly enough, for just as long, her mother has seemed anxious to keep her away from the water. But when Mom finally agrees to let her take swimming lessons, Emily makes a startling discovery—about her own ident...

The Tail of Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler was one of my absolute favorite children's books when I was younger. This enchanting fantasy novel truly captured my imagination.

edit: I'm going to keep this at the 4-star rating since that's how I felt while reading when I was twelve, but I did some research on this, and yes, there is a character in this series who, throughout, has a palm reading business, does hypnosis, and uses tarot cards. I didn't realize what those things were when I was little, so I can't recommend this series to little girls because of that.______________✨All the stars for Liz Kessler's The Tail of Emily Windsnap!✨This middle grade fantasy book, T...

Reading *The Tail of Emily Windsnap* by Liz Kessler, it's amazing how a children's book can immediately transport you back to childhood.

One of my younger sisters and I discovered The Tail of Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler at the thrift store a few weeks ago, and its gorgeous cover and quirky title intrigued us both. I decided to give this children's fantasy book a try. ;)Since my thoughts on this mermaid story are pretty 50/50, I’ll start with what I disliked so we can end on a positive note. ;)Things I Disliked1. This is a mermaid book, so Neptune (a.k.a. Poseidon) was inevitable. He was accurately unpredictable like all charact...

I read Liz Kessler's *The Tail of Emily Windsnap* to my 7-year-old daughter. I'd been really looking forward to reading it and ordered it from the library, especially since there are follow-up novels we hoped to enjoy as well. I'm giving this children's book review some allowances, acknowledging that it's geared towards and written for a young, unsophisticated audience.
It was bad, bad, bad. I was absolutely bored to tears by the dreary, thoroughly unlikable, two-dimensional characters, and the...

Let's be honest, The Tail of Emily Windsnap helped me be strong through bullying, with its magical worlds
(first 'review')
Eighth reread:
Still the same strong feeling of warmth, peace, and safeness.
This means so much to me I cannot even describe it.
It gave me the strength to love myself, and smile again, and it taught me to be brave and hope for the best.
And yes, I know this is not a proper review.
So, I am just going to let a little something in here, that hopefully will make you understan...

You know that children's book you read as a child and randomly find at the library and think "can it possibly be as good as I remember?" Sometimes the answer is an unequivocal yes (see: anything by Beverly Cleary), other times a disheartening no (see: the Mandie series). Sometimes they're so bad you're a bit embarrassed to admit you read and loved them in the first place. The Tail of Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler falls squarely in the latter category with the sad addition (in my case) of no resi...

The plot idea for The Tail of Emily Windsnap is interesting—a seventh-grade girl discovers she's a mermaid when her legs transform into a tail the first time she's submerged in water for swim lessons. However, the writing itself is weak (unless you enjoy books filled with manipulative "you aren't my friend unless you do this" girl talk).
The speech Emily delivers to Neptune, the sea god, at the end is supposed to be a moving defense of love and families, but it came across as trite. Neptune, al...

The Tail of Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler is a fascinating fantasy novel about a girl who discovers she is a mermaid and embarks on a journey to explore the secrets of her life.

The Tail of Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler is a very, very cute book about a girl who, at the age of twelve, has never been fully immersed in water. Although she lives on a houseboat, her mother is deathly afraid of water, so Emily's never been swimming. The boat is so small there's no room for a bathtub. When she finally takes swimming lessons in school, low and behold, she discovers she's a mermaid. Well, sort of... she's got legs when she's out of water, and a tail when she's immersed in water...
