__________________________ “There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found. —Frosty the SnowmanLook, Frosty isn’t the only one to have a magical object that gives them special powers. I’ve had a few myself. When I was a kid in elementary school, all the comic books I read had a page of ads that offered such powerful artifacts. I bought a few of them myself. For instance, I obtained, for a bargain price, a magical coin that would allow me to hypnotize people. Interestingly enou...

Gareth Brown can do no wrong in my eyes! (Until, of course, he does, and he probably will at some stage.) I absolutely loved "The Society of Unknowable Objects." It had that wonderful sense of magic, power, normal everyday life, and a fantastic cast of characters. The mystery/fantasy blend really works here. The plotline was unique and gave me a real sense of urgency as Magda and her team try to save the secret of magical objects in the world, and in turn, try to save the world, too. Gareth Brow...

Immersive, spellbinding, and undeniably special, The Society of Unknowable Objects pulled me happily back into the world of The Book of Doors. From the evocative prose to the found family dynamic, there wasn’t a thing not to love about this genre-bending tale. Conjuring up the perfect mix of magical realism, mystery, adventure, fantasy, and just a dash of romance, there was a bit of everything in there to love. You see, with a heroes-versus-villains premise that was as fast-paced as it was packe...

Magda Sparks is a very popular and accomplished writer, although she uses a pseudonym for her books. In addition to being a writer, she's also a member of The Society of Unknowable Objects (SOUO), which convenes twice a year to talk about "unknowable objects," but what exactly are they? They're everyday objects that possess magic within. What makes these objects magical? Who created them, and why must the Society keep them safe from being exposed to the world? The only person who seems to know ...

Hovering between 3.5 and 4 stars, so I'm rounding up! Gareth Brown, the author of *The Society of Unknowable Objects*, is back with a new novel set in the same universe. It was definitely a good read, but it's tough to reach the heights of his debut. If you're looking for a **fantasy book review**, keep reading! One question I want to address right away: while this isn’t a direct sequel to *The Society of Unknowable Objects*, it is interconnected, so I highly recommend reading that one first!! Li...

"All unknowable objects did something: ordinary, everyday items that would enable those who possessed them to do unusual and extraordinary things." The Society of Unknowable Objects has been meeting for decades. Charged with the protection of magical items coming into the possession of an ill-doer, membership to the society has been passed down exclusively to the next generation. Although, to be honest, no new discoveries or disorder have happened in at least 20 years, so when word comes in of ...

I absolutely adored Gareth Brown's debut fantasy novel, Book of Doors, so when I learned that his next novel, The Society of Unknowable Objects, was set in the same universe, I knew I had to dive in right away. Sadly, this one didn't quite hit the mark for me, but I'm still excited to see that Brown's journey in this world is continuing. I'm always on the lookout for great fantasy book reviews, and while this wasn't my favorite, I'm still invested. For decades, a secret society (The Society of ...

I received this DRC from NetGalley.I enjoyed The Book of Doors, so I was excited to read The Society of Unknowable Objects. I liked the premise, and the book started off interestingly, but as the story progressed, it just didn't quite work. The villain in the first half was just a generic, one-dimensional bad guy, making his parts a bit of a slog to get through. And then the characters kept making infuriatingly dumb decisions, seemingly just to prolong the story. There were several points where ...
