This is my kind of romance. Time travel, amazing historical detail, a slow-burn relationship that felt real and lovely, smugglers, a historic house in Cornwall, and a stunning garden. A perfect read for anyone who enjoys Jane Austen-style romance, British history, and a hint of time-traveling magic. It really reminds me of an older book by Mark Luke called *The Nonsuch Lure*. If you loved *The Rose Garden* by Susanna Kearsley, you might enjoy that one too. For fans of historical romance book rev...

Ahhh... what a concept! This is definitely going down as one of my all-time favorites. I have to admit, at first a couple of the characters got on my nerves, but it quickly had me completely hooked. The narrative style in "The Rose Garden" is absolutely captivating. While reading, I completely lost myself in the world of this gorgeous novel, a blend of historical fiction, romance, time travel, and just a hint of the supernatural. There are so many twists I genuinely didn't see coming, and I enjo...

The moment I realized this novel was set in Cornwall, I was halfway to loving it already. Then it had that du Maurier flavor, the atmosphere of *Jamaica Inn* and the mystery element, the historical setting and charming gentleman that put me in mind of Winston Graham’s *Poldark*, with the addition of a well-conceived and executed time-travel angle. What’s not to like? My only regret is that I let *The Rose Garden* languish on my bookshelf for over a year. There was something about this remote west...

I'm a big fan of Susanna Kearsley's writing style. I absolutely adored the descriptions of Cornwall, England, right at the beginning of *The Rose Garden*. I could picture it all so vividly in my head. It really transported me there. The story started off strong for me, but I did find that the middle section dragged a bit. Not a whole lot seemed to happen, and I felt like it kind of meandered without a clear direction for a while. Thankfully, the ending picked up the pace, and the twist was a sat...

A Good YarnThis story is a good yarn, mostly romantic with a dash of historical details sprinkled in. The author, Susanna Kearsley, gives us a lot of detail about the main characters, which makes them feel so real. I thought it was a tad slow to start, but I quickly got into the vibrant characters and the story just flowed. If you've never picked up a Susanna Kearsley book, I'd definitely suggest "The Rose Garden". It's a superb read and a great place to start. Looking for a captivating historic...

I'm finding it tricky to rate "The Rose Garden" by Susanna Kearsley. On one hand, the story and characters pulled me in enough to finish it in just two or three sittings. But on the other, it asks you to believe quite a lot, and sometimes I struggled to keep up with that. The main character is Eva Ward. After her beloved sister dies, she travels from the US to Cornwall to scatter her ashes near Trelowarth House. This is where she and her sister spent their childhood summers. Family friends – r...

For me, a truly great time travel story needs a good dose of believability. I felt that crucial element was seriously missing in "The Rose Garden." Daniel and Fergal should have been utterly shocked when a woman from the future suddenly materialized out of nowhere. I mean, they should have grilled her about her strange clothes, what era she was from, what the future was like – everything! Instead, they're remarkably blasé about this mysterious phantom woman. Fergal's a little taken aback at firs...

It's funny, I always see Susanna Kearsley's books compared to Daphne du Maurier, Mary Stewart, and Diana Gabaldon – some of my absolute favorite authors. Kearsley definitely nails du Maurier's talent for bringing a location to life, and she's got Stewart's knack for blending romance and suspense. I'm not quite as convinced by the Gabaldon comparison, even though they both play with time travel. Gabaldon's books are dense and packed with history (which I personally love), and while "The Rose Gard...

Re-read January, 2014 with Jeannette and Diane Lynn:Actually even better the second time around! I was able to watch for the myriad clues Susanna Kearsley had laid down throughout the storyline, culminating in that cool twist at the end. Great story; warm and wonderful characters. I cried again this time, which is always a bonus :DOriginal Review:How does she do it?Seriously, how *does* Susanna Kearsley manage to engage me, move me to tears, and surprise me time and time again with her brilliant...

3.5 stars out of 5I keep seeing it everywhere... "If you enjoyed Outlander, you'll love The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley" Okay... me, me, me!!!I loved Outlander and the entire Outlander series. So, that means I'll love this book, right? Time travel romance, here I come!Wrong. I didn't LOVE it. I liked it. It was good but not outstanding (the way Outlander was). It was interesting but not interesting enough to warrant the comparison to Outlander.Hold up, don't get me wrong here. This book, The ...
