Five jaw-dropping stars for this unforgettable tango of lyrical mysticism and coming-of-age! Yangsze Choo's *The Night Tiger* is pure magic! It connects five distinct characters through the significance of their names, weaving their destinies together along an unexpectedly mysterious path between life and death! It explores themes of life after death, love, sibling affection, abuse, feminism and the awakening of women as they discover their own capabilities, murder, passion, class systems, and M...

I am absolutely, utterly, and wonderfully awe-struck. This story is a magically woven tapestry of history, lore, superstition, love, and destiny. With lush storytelling told humbly from the perspectives of seemingly unconnected people, each thread of their beautiful stories intertwines and unfolds in the most rewarding way, making **The Night Tiger** feel like a work of art—a rich art piece that harmoniously integrates all the best kinds of storytelling. Coming of age. Mystery and thrill. Mythol...

This book was absolutely fantastic! I was a little thrown by the romance aspect, as "The Night Tiger" by Yangsze Choo would have been perfectly fine without it. I really enjoyed learning about Malaysian culture through the story. The touches of magic were executed beautifully, and the Chinese folklore was incredibly interesting. It's a captivating read with a truly excellent payoff. Definitely a book review to recommend for those seeking something unique!

I'd already devoured Yangsze Choo’s first novel, The Ghost Bride (you can find my review here), so when I spotted that she had a new book coming out, I jumped at the chance to read it. Unfortunately for "The Night Tiger", I couldn't help but compare it to the first, which inevitably colored my experience. In my opinion, this second novel fell a little short. It was still an enjoyable read, and easy enough to get through, though. As the blurb tells you, the story is set in 1930s Malaya. Ren, an 1...

Malaya, a melting pot of Malays, Chinese, and Indians, teems with spirits: a looking-glass world ruled by unsettling laws. 3½ stars. I might need to mull this one over some more. I'm giving it a tentative 3½, bumped up to 4 because I absolutely adored how this historical mystery was drenched in Chinese and Malaysian mythology and superstition. If you're looking for captivating book reviews, keep reading! For the most part, this was such a stunning and evocative read. The Night Tiger is set in ...

Another fabulous book – on sale today for $2.99 (Kindle download)!“Time is running out: there are only 20 days left before Dr. Mac Farlane’s forty-nine days of the soul are over. If by then he can’t find the finger, he’ll have failed. How will his old master rest? Ren remembers Dr. MacFarlane’s last days, shivering fevers. And then the dreams, the waking nightmares in which the old man would cry for mercy, or crawl slavering on all fours. If Auntie Kwan had still been with them, she would have t...
