The Olaf-ification of gargoyles. Seriously though, what happened here? Rachel Gillig's *The Knight and the Moth (The Stonewater Kingdom, #1)* had so much potential. I was genuinely intrigued by the premise and the world-building hinted at a dark, gothic fairytale. Instead, we got gargoyles acting like Olaf from *Frozen*. The whimsical, almost childish dialogue completely undermined any sense of danger or gravitas. It's a shame, because the core story – a cursed knight, a girl with a mysterious...

Six isn’t like other girls—she drowns herself to see the future. She lives in a creepy castle with her five adopted sisters and a real piece of work for an abbess. Rory is a knight, but not like something out of a fairytale painting. More like a perpetually eye-rolling knight, with smudged makeup and perpetually slumpy shoulders. They have to join forces to solve a mystery🕵🏻‍♂️ (it’s not a fun mystery; it’s actually quite distressing, but I thought the emoji would help). There’s also a boy kin...

I already regret reading this before the series is complete. The wait for book two is going to be pure agony. 😭 Rachel Gillig's brain is seriously something else. She has a marvelous talent for creating stories that are so unique and special. While I don't necessarily think (as of right now) that this story is as deep or developed as her *Shepherd King* series, it still delivers on atmosphere and magic. And where it *really* excels is the characters. My goodness, the characters in *The Knight...

Okay, look, I tried. Seriously, I gave it my best shot. I really, really wanted to like **The Knight and the Moth (The Stonewater Kingdom, #1)**. To love it, even. To hold its words close to my heart like I have with so many other books. I wanted to get it, to understand it. To take it apart piece by piece, like some kind of clockmaker trying to figure out how the gears of this thing work. At some point, I wondered if this was all a joke. On *us*. Some kind of weird, wild satire of the romant...

Don’t look at me, seriously, oh my GOD.

It's been a minute since I devoured a book and knew, within the first chapter, that it was a solid five stars, but here we are. Rachel Gillig, you absolute wordsmith. *The Knight and the Moth (The Stonewater Kingdom, #1)* is a triumph. If you're looking for amazing fantasy book reviews, look no further!

This book just tugged at my heartstrings in the best way possible. Gillig has created such a compelling character, and his journey is just… *chef's kiss*. If you're looking for a fantasy book review that promises feels, this is it. Get ready to fall in love with these characters and this world.

After the Shepherd King duology, I'll read anything Rachel Gillig writes. First book on my 2025 TBR, so excited!!

Also, MOTH IS IN THE TITLE so yeah I’ll be anticipating *The Knight and the Moth (The Stonewater Kingdom, #1)* until it releases! Seriously, Rachel Gillig has me hooked; I'm always on the lookout for good fantasy book reviews, and this one is already a must-read.

My second most anticipated book of the year turned out to be my second biggest disappointment. To explain why, I'm going to have to delve into spoilers, so consider this your warning. After letting my initial frustration settle for a couple of days, I've concluded that the book's issues fall into three main categories: the worldbuilding, the characters, and the storytelling. A messy book is usually one that's lacking in these three essential pillars of a good story.Let's start with the worldbuil...
