Didn't quite wrap it up before Halloween, but I was close! ;) Up until about 75% of the way through, I probably would've given "The Immortal Coil" by J. Armand three stars. But that final stretch... wow. It was seriously action-packed, super emotional, and Dorian actually showed some real character development. So, it squeaks by with a solid four stars. I'm definitely hooked enough to keep reading the series. Thanks for the recommendation, Kristen! As far as fantasy book reviews go, this one ear...

This reads more like a screenplay treatment than a fully realized book. The pacing is relentless, and the main character's choices often make absolutely no sense. Honestly, it's so inaccurate in its portrayal of France and the French that it almost feels like it's vying for the title of "most unrealistic depiction of France" alongside *Emily in Paris*. For example, at one point, a character just… finds a gun in a taxi. Like it's the most normal thing in the world, and no one even questions it. S...

I was really into "The Immortal Coil" about halfway through, but honestly, the beginning and the ending felt a little dragged out to me. Here's hoping J. Armand picks up the pace a bit in the next book! As far as book reviews go, I'd say it has potential.

Alright, folks, this week's book review might get a little wild because… holy moly, *The Immortal Coil* is incredible. I'd seen J. Armand's books floating around on Twitter for a while, thanks to his involvement in #writeLGBTQ, and I was dying to get my hands on them. So, when we connected and scheduled him for a review on my blog months ago? I was doing a happy dance right here in my #amwriting space. And let me tell you, friends… *The Immortal Coil* did not disappoint. I'm not even sure where...

4 StarsReview:*I received a free ecopy of this book from the author. This has in no way influenced my review.*The other night I was exhausted but needed to stay up a little longer, so I figured I'd find a good book to pass the time and keep me awake. I tried numerous books, but I was already half asleep, and none of them were keeping my focus. Then I decided to try "The Immortal Coil" by J. Armand, and I knew from the first page that this would be the one. Before I knew it I was at 10%, then 20%...

Absolutely fantastic modern fantasy/fiction. J. Armand does a wonderful job painting a vivid picture of his characters in "The Immortal Coil"; each one is unique and driven by their own distinct values. He doesn't waste time on meaningless descriptions of places or things that aren't relevant to the story, which I appreciate because he doesn't bore you with unnecessary details. J. Armand creates an interesting protagonist who is constantly growing and evolving throughout "The Immortal Coil". The...

J. Armand's "The Immortal Coil" is a wild ride of sci-fi fantasy, laced with action and horror, that throws a young man's ordinary life into utter chaos thanks to some seriously unwelcome otherworldly visitors. We meet Dorian, an aspiring model, at a casting call. His world seems pretty standard – hustling for gigs, navigating family, soaking in a new city – until he spots a CDC van parked in his neighborhood. A little odd, right? Well, that's just a tiny hint of the madness about to unfold – a ...

As an avid fan of fantasy fiction grounded in real-life scenarios, I bought "The Immortal Coil" after reading the intriguing introduction. After digesting the material over a rather quiet weekend, I can easily say it’s one of the best novels I’ve read this year. J. Armand has a very distinct voice that allows the story, through first-person narration, to vividly illustrate itself in my mind and demand a suspension of disbelief that’s rare in most novels. The tale itself has a multidimensional pr...

This is an excellent urban fantasy novel. J. Armand knows exactly what to write to keep you reading, so I have no trouble recommending "The Immortal Coil" to other UF lovers. The world-building is a slow reveal, so you're in the dark just like the main character, Dorian, as the story builds. That being said, the intensity builds pretty fast, and you get a glimpse in the first chapters of just how dark this story can get. Be prepared, though; J. Armand does not shy away from gore. If you like it ...

I found *The Immortal Coil* to be quite entertaining. While I wouldn't necessarily call it groundbreaking – there are tons of books out there with similar themes – J. Armand really brings some vibrant characters to life. Their backstories are fantastic, and I suspect they're laying the groundwork for future books in a series, which I'd definitely be interested in reading. What really stood out was the pacing; it keeps you hooked. Plus, the action scenes are described in vivid detail. It's defini...
