JK's first novels, FOUND IN TIME and THE LOST PULSE, were recognized for their fast pacing, and, in reviewing the latter, THE REAL BOOK SPY, wrote, "A must-read for fans of Brad Taylor and Mark Greaney." International thrillers THE EXPORT and THE EXPORT’S REVENGE came next. “I worked with a great editor, Ryan Steck, on...

I received an advance copy of The Blood Compass by J.K. Kelly from NetGalley and JK Kelly Consulting in exchange for an honest review. Let's talk about it! Honestly, I found this book to be a bit too fast-paced for my taste. It felt like just as I was starting to get to know a character and understand the purpose of the storyline, a new one was introduced, which became quite frustrating. Don't get me wrong—this isn't a bad read once you finally get into the flow, but that's the main issue: actua...

I found The Blood Compass by J.K. Kelly to be overloaded with events and characters; before you even have time to grasp the relevance of one person, others are introduced at a breakneck speed. As a reader from across the pond, I wasn’t familiar with many of the acronyms used, and having to look them up constantly really broke the pace and flow of the narrative. Once you finally settle into the story, it covers familiar territory. There are plots against Presidents and Prime Ministers, plans for ...

This author really needs to slow down and focus on character development. It’s essential for readers to actually connect with the cast, but in The Blood Compass by J.K. Kelly, new characters are thrown at you on practically every page from the very start, which is just downright confusing. Because you’re left with such a shallow understanding of who these people are, every chapter forces another implausible drama on you—whether it’s child-molesting priests, Nazis, or some random President. It’s ...

The Blood Compass by J.K. Kelly is packed with heads of state, rampant corruption, a group of dedicated freedom fighters, and a fast-moving agenda where trouble seems to follow every single move. "Trust no one" should be the golden rule for Matt Christopher as he flies from Capri to London, DC, and everywhere in between. I didn’t realize I was diving into this thriller as the third book in a series, though you don’t strictly need to have read the previous two adventures of Mr. Christopher; there...

[I received an ARC of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publisher in return for an honest review.]I really wanted to enjoy The Blood Compass by J.K. Kelly, as it’s a genre I’ve always enjoyed. However, I struggled to keep track of the plot, the various characters, and all their backstories. I frequently had to reread multiple paragraphs just to make sense of what was happening. The narrative felt more like a stream of consciousness than a structured novel. The MCI—Matt Christopher Investigati...

The Blood Compass by J.K. Kelly is an exceptionally well-written, high-quality novel that is a total joy to read. The pacing is absolutely perfect, keeping me glued to the pages from start to finish. I especially loved all the jet-setting locations—it really added to the adventure. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for their next great thriller.
The main character, Matt, has so much on his shoulders, balancing high-stakes projects with a desperate need to deliver justice. When he ...

I picked this up hoping for a fun escape from the heavy literary fiction I usually read. But, as often happens, the back-cover blurb and the actual reading experience were two completely different things.Perhaps I should have realized that The Blood Compass by J.K. Kelly is the third installment in a series following Matt Christopher, an ex-FBI agent who was framed and disgraced before being cleared and starting his own firm. But here is the issue: I’m still not entirely sure what his company ac...

The Blood Compass by J.K. Kelly is a fast-paced action novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The cast of characters is large and expansive, but they manage to keep you on your toes and fully invested in the journey. There is a lot going on throughout the plot, but the ending was a major letdown. I understand that I won't always love every conclusion, but this one left me genuinely questioning whether I enjoyed the book at all. If you are looking for an action-pa...

The title of The Blood Compass by J.K. Kelly is incredibly intriguing because it keeps you guessing from the very first page. It feels like a high-stakes mystery, almost like a game of Clue with a dash of Agatha Christie thrown into the mix. I was completely spellbound while reading it. I loved how the protagonist, Matt, is a private investigator with a complicated past; he used to work for the government, but he ended up ousted because of his ex-wife. You truly never know what’s coming next in ...

The writing in The Blood Compass is truly brilliant, making for a sensational story. This is a highly recommended read, and I have no hesitation in giving five stars to this chilling crime thriller novel.
