Twenty years ago, monsters emerged, ushering in a brutal new era. Humanity huddles in cramped, militarized coastal cities, while the ravaged United States has become the Wastes—a lawless, monster-infested wasteland claimed by creatures like Wyn, the Soul Eater. Every three years, Wyn carves a path o...

4.00!I *hate* being in a reading slump, which, yep, I'm in one right now 😮‍💨. But to couple that with a review slump? Absolutely criminal. So, I'm trying to break free by writing a review for this one because I enjoyed it a lot, and also, I'm currently waiting for my flight, which is delayed 🤪.For a first foray into monster romance series, *Soul Eater (Monstrous, #1)* proved to be so good. The plot wasn't *stellar*, but the overall vibe and the character development were very well done. I lik...

4.5/5⭐ 5/5🌶️ 3/5😱 4/5🎧If you read SPICE, and like M/M romance, and aren't weirded out by Monster smut, but you aren't reading this entire series, then WHAT ARE you doin' babe?Holy hell. Now, do you have to like Monster spice in order to enjoy this book, Soul Eater (Monstrous, #1) by Lily Mayne? - No, you really don't. Wyn, while having interesting anatomy below the belt, is basically a human man dude with monstrous elements (horns & exciting coloring). But let me tell you, it's been a minu...

Re-read 8/28/2025My last review doesn’t say much, so I’m writing a new one!! Although everything I said originally still remains true. "Soul Eater (Monstrous, #1)" will always hold a place in my heart. I love Danny and Wyn; they are my second favorite couple after Charlie and Moth.Anyway, the world has been plunged into a desolate land full of monsters who crawled out from a mythical tear and have since claimed the land as their own territory. The cities are now fully run by the military, too cr...

But then I got curious because I really liked the cover of Soul Eater (Monstrous, #1)… soooooooooo I read it to dip my toes in… turns out, yeah I’M TOTALLY HERE FOR IT.The floodgates have been opened.I'M READY TO OFFER MYSELF UP TO THE PARASITES IF IT MEANS WYN GETS TO STEP ON ME/edited my old review. **Audio re-read review, two years later**This series is one of my all-time favorites, and I devoured it in ebook. I'm slowly making my way through the audiobooks in the series, and I have to say, Michael Lesley CRUSHES the narration. He is the only narrator that could do this series. I'm 100% serious. That being said, if I read this book today, I would have given it 4-stars. It was much sappier than I remembered, but I'm not sure how much of my feelings have to do with the fact that I knew what ...

|| 2.0 stars ||I know this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I honestly found **Soul Eater (Monstrous, #1)** incredibly boring.Frankly, not much happens in terms of plot or character development. The two main characters are literally just traveling through this desolate place they call "The Wastes," and that’s pretty much it. Most scenes are just everyday moments where they're looking for food or a place to sleep, and occasionally they kill a 'parasite' or two. After a while, Wyn and Danny be...

The beginning of *Soul Eater (Monstrous, #1)* was promising, but it ultimately fell flat for me. Such a disappointment! The writing and world-building were solid. There were some good action sequences and some genuinely dark and brutal scenes—exactly the kind of stuff I usually eat up in a dark action-adventure story. So, why didn't *Soul Eater (Monstrous, #1)* work for me?Wyn is supposed to be an ageless monster, but he acts like a whiny young adult. Ugh! I was hoping for a mature, brooding anti-...

DNF at 48%I was totally hooked at the beginning! The writing style grabbed me, the author built a fascinating world, and I really connected with the characters. It's been ages since I dove into a post-apocalyptic story, and I was so into it that I almost forgot it was supposed to be a romance. Then BAM! I was smacked in the face with an image I definitely wasn't expecting. 😂 Also, I'm not thrilled about how the main characters' 'relationship' kicked off. I guess I was hoping for something a lit...

Honestly, just reading the book description, I didn't think *Soul Eater (Monstrous, #1)* by Lily Mayne would be my cup of tea. Post-apocalyptic world? Monsters? Violence? Nope, nope, and a big nope. But I'm a nosy person and I wanted to see what all the hype was about. And, holy hell, y'all, I absolutely freaking loved this book. The story has it all: - Tension and angst galore. When things really went south around the 75% mark, I started yelling at my Kindle. Knowing something bad was coming, b...

New favorite author alert!!! That was AMAZING!!! Oh my god!!! I literally can’t believe this was Lily Mayne’s debut novel. ♥️I absolutely love dystopian novels, but I don’t think I have ever read any that had actual monsters in it. I’m actually quite a noob when it comes to fantasy and paranormal creatures of any kind. But this sounded amazing from the blurb alone, so I couldn’t resist checking it out. I really liked the world the author has created, and I hope we get to see more of it in the se...
