Born in the deep dark south in the mid-sixties. Brom, an army brat, spent his entire youth on the move and unabashedly blames living in such places as Japan, Hawaii, Germany, and Alabama for all his afflictions. 4.5 ⭐️This. Was. Fabulous.Feminine rage, religious trauma, witchy vibes, and a touch of horror (more creepy than outright scary). I absolutely loved **Slewfoot: A Dark Fantasy of Colonial New England** and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to read it. Brom's writing is incredibly atmospheric; I felt like I was standing right there in the New England forest, watching everything unfold. I felt all the characters' emotions right along with them. I HIGHLY recommend **Slewfoot: A Dark Fantasy of...

WHYYY did I wait so long to read this masterpiece?!? PHENOMENAL. Seriously, why did I sleep on Brom's *Slewfoot: A Dark Fantasy of Colonial New England* for so long? If The Crucible and Pan’s Labyrinth had a lovechild raised on dark folklore and feminist fury, it would be Slewfoot: A Dark Fantasy of Colonial New England. Brom, the master of eerie, atmospheric fantasy, delivers a spellbinding tale that’s equal parts horror, historical drama, and pagan dreamscape. This isn’t your typical witch hunt, it’s a ferocious, heart-wrenching dance between oppression and liberation, set against the backdrop of Puritan New England, where sin lurks in the shadows and virt...

Living in a Puritan society is so messed up, I'm honestly surprised the main character in *Slewfoot: A Dark Fantasy of Colonial New England* didn't end up as some kind of monster-fucker. Seriously, Brom really nails the oppressive vibe.

3.5 ⭐️ Insufferable, but in the absolute *best* way. Okay, let's be real: if you're looking for a light and fluffy read, steer clear of Brom's *Slewfoot: A Dark Fantasy of Colonial New England*. This book is deliberately unsettling, and it revels in its own grimness. But that's precisely why I enjoyed it so much. It's a dark fantasy book review where the author doesn't pull any punches. Brom creates a world steeped in paranoia, religious fanaticism, and the brutal realities of early colonial ...

Oh my god… this book. This BOOK. THIS BOOK!!!!!*Slewfoot: A Dark Fantasy of Colonial New England* is a vivid and luscious work of dark folklore, brimming with historical horror unlike anything I’ve ever read…The entire book is completely captivating, packed with rich, dark descriptions that drag you along on an unbelievable ride. The historical aspects are spot on, making you feel the desperation and judgment as if you were right there in 1666. Beautifully told with incredible imagery, this stor...

Oh my god... this was just… awful. I'm officially done with male authors writing female protagonists. The whole "I'm-not-like-other-girls-because-I'm-just-so-stubborn-and-strong-willed-this-town-just-doesn't-get-me" trope is beyond TIRED. It completely cheapens the complexity of the New England witch trials, turning it into some ignorant fantasy. There's zero historical accuracy (even for a supernatural fictional story!), zero depth, pointless characters, cringeworthy dialogue, gratuitous nudity...

Second read: We love a Demon Daddy! Samson is a total hottie, and Abitha is definitely willing to pay the price. Abitha is THAT bitch and deserves all the rights. She’s serving looks and slaying (literally) in this empowering revenge story. Samson is the goat-god-devil we all love but probably don't deserve.Forest is my lil bb. Yeah, he's frustrating at times, but I would throw myself in front of him in a heartbeat. He is precious and loyal and sweet. Gotta love a ride-or-die.Wallice can literal...

3.25⭐️ maybe.
So conflicted.
The last 20% saved it. If only the first 80% was that good. I'm on the fence with Brom's *Slewfoot: A Dark Fantasy of Colonial New England*. The ending definitely packed a punch, making me consider rating it higher. Looking for dark fantasy book reviews? This one's a mixed bag, leaning towards good thanks to that strong finish.
