A few spoiler-free things (assuming you've finished *A Discovery of Witches*) you'll want to know before diving into *Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, Book 2)* (or things I wish I'd known beforehand):1. 95% of this story unfolds in the past. There are a few chapters that catch you up on the present, but honestly, those parts were kinda boring...2. The time travel? Don't even try to understand it.Seriously, just let it go. The 16th-century Matthew vanishes while present-day Matthew is hanging o...

So, imagine you've crafted a tale about vampires and witches on the hunt for a mysterious book brimming with power and life. The story unfolds in the modern era, largely within the city of Oxford, featuring memorable scenes in the Bodleian Library. Sounds promising, right?Your main character gradually falls for a vampire, and the feelings are mutual. They decide to combine their efforts, sharing similar goals. Their quest for the book faces obstacles, with numerous individuals standing in their ...

I wish I could give "Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, Book 2)" more than 3 stars. Honestly, it's only getting three because it barely piqued my interest enough to finish it.
I was so excited to dive back into Diana and Matthew's journey after reading "The Discovery of Witches" a couple of years ago – I absolutely adored the first book!
But this book? I found it way too long, crammed with unnecessary characters. Yes, I realized after finishing that there's a glossary in the back... but on a ...

This book was absolutely unbearable. I spent ages writing a really long review, then lost it before saving, and honestly, I'm so frustrated with this book I can't bring myself to write it all out again.
I'm just going to list a few key reasons why you should skip this one:
Most of the new characters are either totally boring or actively annoying. Matthew also becomes incredibly irritating, constantly keeping secrets and treating Diana like she's too dense to understand anything.
And if a char...

After reading *A Discovery of Witches*, I was eager to dive into *Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, Book 2)*. I didn't hate it, but I didn't exactly love it either. While I had some issues with the first book (check out my review for the details), my feelings about *Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, Book 2)* are equally mixed, though for different reasons.
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
First, the good stuff:
- Deborah Harkness finally puts her expertise as an Elizabethan historian to good use, going ...

I can't believe "Shadow of Night" has 4 stars??? Did we even read the same book? I suffered through this one – actually *listened* to it as a 24-hour audiobook!! That should have been my first warning sign. I'm so turned off by this LONG, confusing sequel that I don't even *want* to read the third book. I can't imagine how Deborah Harkness will be able to tie up all the MANY loose ends she's left dangling. And seriously, did *anyone* understand that crazy weaver plotline? Two more of my many pet...

A Request to Readers Who LOVED Shadow of Night
Please stop reading NOW. Seriously. Based on the ridiculous and repetitive comments left by fans of the All Souls Trilogy, many of you can't handle opinions that don't match your own. You feel the need to call me stupid, tell me I have no right to read *Shadow of Night*, and other nonsense. If that's you, FINE. Just stop telling me! I don't care! I don't troll fans of the series and call them morons for liking the books, so please return the favo...

I'm utterly bored and can't bring myself to read another page. I've been wading through *Shadow of Night* for over a week now, hundreds upon hundreds of pages, and virtually nothing has happened. The plot crawls at a snail's pace; it's astonishing how little progress there is. Too many dull, unimportant characters are thrown into the mix. The sheer volume of historical information and intricate detail is impressive, but also incredibly tedious. So many times I wanted to scream, "Just get on with...

"You gave your life to me, Diana Bishop. It's time to make use of it."
This is a tough review to write. How do I even begin to sum up all the intense emotions and thoughts that **Shadow of Night** conjured in me? Please forgive me if this review isn't worthy of the book, because it truly was an incredible story, and like *A Discovery of Witches*, one I know I'll have to read again and again. If you love witchy reads, this is it!The book picks up exactly where *A Discovery of Witches* ended. M...

My rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars**Shadow of Night** picks up immediately after *A Discovery of Witches* ends (and I do mean immediately, with little to no refresher). This was my second attempt at reading it, and I attribute my success in completing it solely to this recap I found online, which was an immense help. It follows Matthew and Diana as they travel back into the past to search for Ashmole 782 and for Diana to seek help with her powers. For those who don’t remember: Ashmole 782 is the bewi...
