Born in Sydney in 1974, Matthew Reilly was not always a big fan of reading. It was only after he read To Kill A Mockingbird and Lord of the Flies in Year 10 that he realised reading could transport you to another world. Following this revelation, Matthew soon began creating stories of his own and set about writing his...

Matthew Reilly's *Seven Deadly Wonders: A Jack West Jr. Thriller* feels like reading a 90s action B-movie. Unfortunately, this novel doesn't deliver a compelling narrative; both the plot and the characters lack believability. While Reilly tries to blend high-octane action with historical mysteries, the result is a muddled mess that leaves you wanting much more. Right from the start, the characters come across as one-dimensional and unconvincing. They're supposedly a diverse group from various b...

A team of smaller nations bands together, attempting the impossible: global cooperation to save the world. They aren't alone in trying to save the planet, but the others are too busy sabotaging each other, driven purely by self-interest. According to an ancient prophecy, the nation that saves the world will be rewarded with a thousand years of peace or power. The alliance is made up of tough military types with quirky nicknames like Pooh Bear and Princess Zoe – the latter being a ten-year-old g...

I'm calling it sci-fi, but only because I haven't added an Action/Adventure category yet. Because that's exactly what it is! Sure, there are robot arms and flying suits, but the best part is the adventure to grab your 5000-year-old Legos, or Amon Ra will smite you!Wait, what? Is that even in the book? Well, kinda. What you *do* get is a rollicking adventure aiming for the pure WOW and AWE factor that's usually missing from modern books. Matthew Reilly takes us on a tour of all the Seven Wonders ...

To the person who wrote this... well, let's just say less-than-stellar story: who in the heck are you, and what have you done with the guy who wrote Ice Station?! There's no way you're Matthew Reilly. It's simply not possible. Because, seriously, this book right here? It reads like it was written 30 years ago. By my 13-year-old niece. Who doesn't speak a lick of English. Yep, that's right. This is definitely not Pulitzer Prize material, my Little Barnacles.Hold on. Before I unleash my Deadly Arg...

**Re-read 07/20**Not gonna lie – Matthew Reilly's writing in **Seven Deadly Wonders: A Jack West Jr. Thriller** is completely outrageous.I am 100% here for it.It's so over-the-top and action-packed and full of miraculous moments and impressive saves and I FKN LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT.This book introduces us to one of my favorite fictional heroes: Jack West Jr. He's basically a badass blend of John McClane, Indiana Jones, and Aragorn from LOTR – some of my faves right there – and he's accompanied ...

Still so damn good. Matthew Reilly's *Seven Deadly Wonders: A Jack West Jr. Thriller* just hits different. Plain and simple. If you're looking for a thrill ride of a book, look no further. Seriously, still so freaking good.

OH. MY. GOD.That's all I can say. I went in with an open mind, actually looking forward to this book. I enjoy action-adventure, and I'm willing to forgive a lot if the action is good. Plus, I'm a fantasy fan, so I'm used to "suspending disbelief." I'll swallow a lot with a shrug and an "oh well" if it makes for a good story. This time...it didn't.I've never read anything by Matthew Reilly before. In **Seven Deadly Wonders: A Jack West Jr. Thriller**, he seems to have taken a page from Bullwinkle ...

A few weeks ago, someone in my apartment building left a bunch of old magazines and recipe books in the lobby on a shelf that acts as a kind of internal charity shop. Amongst the 2008 editions of *Marie Claire* magazines was *Seven Deadly Wonders: A Jack West Jr. Thriller*. Judging the book by its cover, I assumed it would be god-awful pop fiction riding the Dan Brown bandwagon, so I, of course, picked it up and read it today on a return trip to Oxford. I confess, the book isn't terrible. I'm u...

This book was so utterly terrible, so completely devoid of any redeeming qualities, that I just had to talk about it. It's so bad it's almost unbelievable, and I kept reading purely to see how much worse it could get, so I could tell everyone I know just how totally, completely, and utterly awful it is. The only other books I've even started that were this bad were a few cheesy romance novels, and I wondered how even *they* got published. Where do I even begin? If I had to sum up why **Seven De...

Seven Deadly Wonders: A Jack West Jr. Thriller introduced me to a new character by Matthew Reilly, Jack West Jr. It's tough to follow in Shane 'Scarecrow' Schofield's footsteps because, well, he's the man! But I have to say, I really like Jack. What's not to like? He's a fun character: honorable, intelligent, athletic, dedicated, daring, and lethal to the bad guys. And as a girl who grew up on Indiana Jones and wanted to be my own version of the adventurer, Jack has that Indiana Jones appeal in ...
