I wasn’t sure what to expect from Pitfall as I hadn’t heard of Cameron Bane before stumbling across this book online. After reading the blurb, I decided to give it a shot, and I am so glad I did. It was absolutely unputdownable! There was a bit of a slow start, but the pace ramped up quickly once we were introduced to the main character and the central story arc. The characters were well-developed throughout the book, leading to some excellent twists and turns at the end... and a real cliffhanger...

I won a free copy of Pitfall in a Goodreads contest. I really enjoyed the book and getting to know John Brenner. He reminds me quite a bit of one of my favorite fictional characters, Jack Reacher. Brenner is a man of true honor. He takes on the difficult job of finding the missing teenage daughter of a wealthy man. Without giving any spoilers away, let’s just say he finds this task to be a genuine challenge. I hadn’t read anything by Cameron Bane before, but I would definitely read more adventur...

This book wasn't a very pleasant experience for me, and I’ll try to explain why without sounding like an entitled literary snob. I’ll probably fail, but I feel like I have to speak my mind about this thriller.
The main issue that undermines Pitfall is the choice of first-person narration. In theory, the idea of a wisecracking action hero is seductive, but it doesn't work in Pitfall because it clashes with the tone of the story. John Brenner takes on serious threats with an absurd amount of conf...

There seems to be a formula used by thriller writers today that I find a bit tiresome, especially as it is so predictable. It’s where the writer leads off with a prologue or foreword that places the protagonist in the midst of some huge firefight or calamity from which it looks impossible to escape. At the end, we are left hanging to discover what will happen to someone we don’t know and, frankly, probably don’t care about. This is followed by the backstory that leads up to the problem our hero ...

Pitfall by Cameron Bane is a fast-paced thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. You’ll find yourself genuinely rooting for the heroes while absolutely despising the villains. The book features some intense action sequences and detailed descriptions of torture techniques, but the plot moves at such a relentless clip that it never feels overwhelming. I don’t want to spoil any of the surprises, but I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series. If you...

There is nothing I hate more than waiting in airports, sitting for hours in those uncomfortable chairs while waiting for delayed flights. So, what does that have to do with Pitfall? Well, with this book, you won't mind the wait. In fact, the page-turning action will keep you so engrossed that you might just miss your boarding announcement. The action in Pitfall starts in the very first paragraph on page one and never lets up. There is a tiny lull about a third of the way through when John Brenne...

I started reading Pitfall by Cameron Bane at the doctor’s office and got so entranced that I almost missed my name being called. I was completely sucked into the pages from the very first chapter. Let me introduce you to Jack Brenner, a retired Army Ranger and ex-cop. He’s had a rough life, but above all, he’s a Southern gentleman. He takes on a case that was supposed to be easy—but when is anything ever easy? He’s confronted with an evil that reaches the highest levels and comes face-to-face wi...

Wow. Just . . . wow. Pitfall by Cameron Bane is packed with fast-paced action, intrigue, and mystery—not to mention some truly gut-wrenching suspense. Everything is narrated by a tough former Ranger who brings a quick wit, hard fists, and a genuinely good heart to the page. I enjoyed the entire book, but once I hit the halfway point, I could hardly put it down. I’m already ready for the sequel. If you’re looking for a gripping new thriller, I highly recommend Pitfall to any suspense fans who don...

I’ve decided to sit this one out, as I’m currently working on Pitfall with the team over at Wildblue Press. That said, if you’re a fan of badass protagonists with a sharp sense of humor, you’re going to get a real kick out of this book. Police and military thrillers aren't usually my go-to genre, but I had a blast reading this one. If you're looking for a gripping new thriller or a must-read mystery, Cameron Bane has delivered something truly entertaining.

Highly Recommend This was the first book I've read by author Cameron Bane, and hopefully, it won't be my last. It is packed with mystery and adventure. Since you usually get a good summary of the plot before deciding to buy, and I personally dislike reviews that spoil the whole story, I won't give too much away here! The story is incredibly lively and lands P.I. John Brenner in some sticky and dangerous predicaments as he searches for a missing girl. Cameron Bane writes in such an easy-to-read s...
