I went into this one with a knot of anxiety in my stomach. The synopsis had me hooked, but it was being compared to *Uprooted* and *For the Wolf*, both of which landed at a measly 2 stars for me. So, honestly, I wasn't sure if **One Dark Window** by Rachel Gillig would be my cup of tea. But I'm beyond thrilled I decided to take the plunge anyway! Because, just like the summary promises, this story is genuinely captivating! I'm obsessed with the concept of the Providence Cards, the intricate magi...

Did we all read the same book? Because *One Dark Window* was... not good. Seriously, what's with all the hype?Generally, I feel like I can always count on fantasy. Give me an interesting premise, decent execution, some badass heroes and heroines, and I'm happy. But then comes Rachel Gillig's *One Dark Window*, making me question my entire love for the genre. I'm struggling to find even one thing I truly enjoyed in it.Let's start with the characters. Wow, were they dumb. Elspeth could barely do a...

Wow, the magic system in this book was so cool and unique! "One Dark Window" by Rachel Gillig leans more into fantasy than romance, but the world-building was so captivating that I didn’t even mind. Seriously hooked and already excited for the sequel! Definitely a must-read if you're looking for dark fantasy book reviews.

Okay, okay, okayyyyy, I'm officially obsessed! I'm already dying to get my hands on the next book. If you're relatively new to the fantasy genre like I am, Rachel Gillig's *One Dark Window* was absolutely perfect. It was easy to follow, the tension was incredible, and overall, it was just a fantastic read! Whoo hoo! I feel like I'm unlocking a whole new side of myself. For anyone looking for great fantasy book reviews, definitely check out *One Dark Window*.

The hype for *One Dark Window* is intense, and all I want to say is...Why are all y'all out here LYING???Beautiful writing? Loveable characters?? Intrigue??? Stakes???? Romance????? A plot that isn't just Pokemon?????? Not a single one can be found here. Not a single one, I say!First of all, this is not adult fantasy. Nope. Nada. The protagonist may be 20, and her love interest a bit older, but this reads like a poorly executed amalgamation of every other YA fantasy that's been flooding the mark...

Gothic romantic fantasies will remain at the top as long as they’re written like this. I’d go to the front lines for Elspeth and Ravyn! ALL TEN TOES DOWN FOR THEM 😤My god, **One Dark Window** by Rachel Gillig was too damn good. I can’t even form words to express my love for this book, so I’ll try my best here. Everything was a hit! The magic system, the characters, the found family, the romance, the plot—my scalp was tingling. Our main girl Elspeth basically has this monster’s soul living inside...

Elspeth came down with a fever as a kid, and now she's got this furry Dr. Seuss character in her head with a serious mean streak. She then meets a guy with a ridiculous name and the hygiene of a college frat dude. He takes her to meet his bonkers family, and she discovers they're trying to collect a set of magical cards to break some kind of fog curse. Ravyn needs Elspeth close, so they fake a relationship; don't ask me questions, just go with it. I swear, "his smile didn't reach his eyes" must ...

DNF at page 205 I'm so sorry, but I just couldn't finish this book 😭 I really, really wanted to love it, but the more I tried, the more disappointed I became. Reasons why I didn't like it- 1. My expectations were way too high. I saw so many people raving about this book, so many positive reviews for "One Dark Window" by Rachel Gillig, and it made my expectations skyrocket.2. The writing was so emotionless. It's written in a really bland way, like someone just listing facts in a jumbled order, ...

Sadly, *One Dark Window* just didn't click with me. I've got two reviews here: a constructive one and a silly one. Here's my more sensible take (silly review at the end) ~~ **Why *One Dark Window* Didn't Work for Me** **Worldbuilding (+ naming conventions):** The world of Blunder feels really flat. We find out there's a Wood and a Mist, but not much else. The upper classes all have tree-related last names (Hawthorn, Yew, Rowan, Willow, Laburnum), presumably because of the Wood's importance in...
