Honestly? "No Shame in Love" had potential, but it just didn't deliver for me. I loved the premise – a Southern girl waking up to the racial injustice around her. But the execution felt rushed and clumsy. She grows up with a deeply racist father and brother, in a town full of violence against Black people, and then *bam*, suddenly she's questioning everything? I needed to see that development, that internal struggle. It felt like Melissa Foster just skipped over crucial character building. Plus,...

I was genuinely shocked, but pleasantly surprised, that Melissa Foster gave readers the option to experience *No Shame in Love* with or without the Southern dialect. I've always found the culture surrounding the Civil Rights era deeply interesting, and it moves me no matter the medium – whether I'm watching a film or reading a book. I'm constantly learning, and Foster did a fantastic job of keeping me engaged throughout *No Shame in Love*. Alison, the protagonist, is a very sheltered soul. She s...

I just couldn't finish it. So, so awful. I honestly can't believe the high ratings for "No Shame in Love," which I borrowed because it was free on the Amazon Lending Library. In some backwards Arkansas (or is it Alabama? I honestly can't keep those racist A-states straight) town lives this obnoxious young woman called Pixie. She's got some budding compassion and awareness of her town's terrible racial politics, which is great, I guess. Too bad she's the most annoying, stupid (literally, unbeliev...

I was hooked from the very first page of this book. Growing up in Arkansas myself, I could practically feel the humidity and hear the mosquitoes buzzing as the powerful story of *No Shame in Love* unfolded. Young Allison is caught between what 1960s Southern society tells her is the right thing for a young white woman, and what her own heart knows is right. She wrestles with chasing her dreams and becoming independent like her rebellious sister, or staying Daddy's little girl and doing what plea...

Absolutely stunning! *No Shame in Love* is truly Melissa Foster at her finest. You might not expect a story centered on a small-town daddy's girl to be so utterly captivating. On the surface, Alison, nicknamed Pixie, seems like a timid mouse. She's afraid to rock the boat, conditioned to accept her predetermined role. She's on the path to marrying her high school sweetheart, fulfilling everyone's expectations. That is, until she stumbles upon the body of a Black man in the river. Suddenly, her ey...

No Shame in Love has easily moved its way into my top 10 list of favorite books ever read. This book is such an important dissection of such a tragic time in history. The story unfolds in Forrest Town, Arkansas, in the late '60s, when segregation "should" have been on its way out but was still deeply entrenched in some areas of the South, in particular. This unique and lovely story is perfectly positioned from Alison's point of view – a simple farm girl who graduates high school and is about to...

Melissa Foster's *No Shame in Love* offers a powerful glimpse into a small Arkansas town in 1967. Being about the same age as Alison Tillman, the main character, I found the setting fascinating, even though growing up in New England felt like a world apart from her experiences. This is a must read for anyone interested in historical fiction and *book reviews* about the 1960s.Alison is a young woman who believes she knows exactly where her life is headed. She's engaged to Jimmy Lee Carlisle, her ...

I've never read Melissa Foster before, but "No Shame in Love" is my first, and I'm officially hooked! Right from page one, her characters pull you in so completely that you'll find yourself juggling a book in one hand while stirring dinner or folding laundry – anything to keep reading. All day, I was impatient to get back to the book and see what happened next. The emotional rollercoaster that Alison, the main character, goes through in "No Shame in Love" is truly unforgettable. Melissa Foster ...

Melissa Foster's *No Shame in Love* is an incredible story tackling a taboo subject in the Deep South during the 1960s. The novel follows Alison, stuck on her family's farm and engaged to her high school sweetheart. Her sister, living in New York City, embraces a new lifestyle—one drastically different from their upbringing, which taught them to hate Black people and see them as less than human. As Alison grapples with the ingrained prejudice and her desire to remain her 'Daddy's little girl,'...

Melissa Foster's *No Shame in Love* is a truly captivating book. Set in the Deep South in 1967, it tells the story of an eighteen-year-old girl forced to confront the prejudices of the time head-on. As a reader, I was taken on a deeply emotional journey as this young woman makes some incredibly tough choices after befriending a young African American man. As their story unfolds and her feelings begin to turn romantic, she’s faced with a dilemma: continue on her current path, set to marry her hig...
