Owen Zastava Pitt's life took a monstrous turn when he defenestrated his boss and landed a job offer unlike any other. Turns out, monsters are real—lurking in the shadows, straight from myth and B-movies. Officially secret, they range from hungry to downright evil. That's where Monster Hunter Intern...

WOW!! What a thrilling ride into the urban fantasy realm!! What would be the worst thing that could happen to you if you threw your boss out a window from the 14th floor of your office building?! Probably lots of prison time in the real world, but in the fantasy world you would get recruited by Monster Hunter International if you found out your boss just happened to be a werewolf! Our hero of the story, Owen Zastava Pitt, freaked right out of his mind when he saw his boss transform right before ...

Okay, this book was a beautiful mess: such a fun read. I mean, guns and monsters and more guns! What's not to like, right? I dove in expecting the usual slow burn of urban fantasy, but *Monster Hunter International* started on a high note and ended with a big bang, man. I enjoyed every single word of it. You have to be a certified gun nut to fully appreciate the full spectrum of the firearms mentioned in this novel... Anyway, it was very cool for a first book by Larry Correia. I'll definitely re...

Actual rating: 3.784579612 stars. And a quarter. No punches pulled here, folks. Sorry. Consider yourselves warned. This book has a whole lot of stuff working against it:① The author is widely referred to as a right-wing nutjob, dimwit, conservative jerk, misogynist, and homophobe. ② Other reviewers mention that this is nothing but a pro-gun, anti-government, and an urban fantasy novel for the Tea-Party/NRA crowd.③ The main characters apparently suffer from Severe Gary Stu and Mary Sue Syndrome (SG...

I grabbed "Monster Hunter International" in Texas after a bookseller recommended it. If I had to give you a quick pitch, I'd say: "Imagine the Dresden Files, but without the magic and replaced with a ton of guns..."That's not a perfect description, of course. Elevator pitches never are. But it captures some of the essence... Looking online, I see I'm not the only one making that comparison. That's a little annoying, but it also means I should probably explain the similarities and differences a b...

Let me start with a disclaimer: I'm a Libertarian, pro-gun, and anti-big government. Now, let me also say that the last thing I want in my fantasy literature is a pro-gun, anti-big government agenda. I read books to escape the depressing realities of life, not to wallow in them, and *Monster Hunter International* by Larry Correia is one big, smelly wallow. Looking for honest book reviews? Maybe skip this one.
On the surface, it's about a guy who's a 200-pound mass of pure muscle, a genius, an a...

I honestly don't know if I can *really* review *Monster Hunter International* because, full disclosure, I couldn't actually finish it. So, consider this more of a commentary on the chapters I managed to get through:
(1) The main character is just...unbelievable. Like, *Mary Sue* doesn't even begin to cover it (and the fact that a powerful wizard living in Chicago feels *more* believable should tell you something). The book is overflowing with what I'm gonna call "White Male Wish Fulfillment" (a...

Edited late to add a star that should have been added long ago. Monster Hunter International (MHI #1)This is one KICK ASS rockin,' rock 'em-sock'em, Jesus Block 'em, Rock and Roll, if it Moves shoot it if it don't use it like a bullet proof shield or cannon fodder, Monster Huntin', holy smokin' good read. This book review is for anyone looking for a wild ride!Calling this an Urban Fantasy is, like calling Smokin' Joe Frazier a pansy. There are some mistakes you only get to make once before you n...

Previously three stars *(1)Turns out Monster Hunter International was an engaging read, and I'll definitely check out the next book in the series. The first-person point of view is told by an unusual hero: a large, "ugly," now scarred accountant who was raised in a family that emphasized guns and survival skills. As such, his language is straightforward, but not so simplistic that I was bored. Flashes of humor and modern references kept the voice fresh, making me feel like although he took situa...

4.5 stars. The book jacket description is spot-on for figuring out if you'll dig this one. If you're into TONS and TONS of monsters and other supernatural creatures, mixed with a whole LOT of guns, and a tone that's got that Dresden Files vibe from Jim Butcher, then it's safe to say YOU'LL LOVE **Monster Hunter International** by Larry Correia. A super-secret, "private" agency that hunts down and eliminates monsters (for hefty bounties paid out by the government)... seriously, what's not to love...

At first glance (say at the title) anyone would probably take *Monster Hunter International* by Larry Correia to be basically "brain candy". And they'd be right....but sometimes you find some really good brain candy. While this book is openly a little on the "hokey" side...it's an excellent read. I enjoyed this book immensely.
I was looking at the time for something light and had *Monster Hunter International* recommended to me by a stranger while browsing the shelves in Books-A-Million. (Okay,...
