Monster Hunter Alpha is another fun adventure in the Monster Hunter International series, although it's quite different from the first two books. As an avid reader of fantasy books, here's my take.
What threw me off initially was that this book is almost entirely from Earl Harbinger's third-person perspective, rather than Owen Zestava Pitt's first-person view. As a result, Monster Hunter Alpha took some getting used to. The story is also very contained, taking place almost entirely in a small-t...

Actual rating: 3.21458638 starsTime for the Super Extra Short List Thingie (SESLT™) and stuff! Because there are puny humans to tyrannize, countries to overthrow, and all that.So.① Not very terribly inspired or inspiring change in POV.It's not that Earl Harbinger, the Ruthlessly Fearless and Fearlessly Ruthless Hardass Werewolf Leader (RFaFRHWL™)—yes, that is an official title—of Monster Hunter International, is an uninteresting guy, but he’s kinda sorta, um, you know, not fantastically fascinat...

My first reaction was pure RAGE: Where the heck is Z at? You'd think being in the same predicament again and again – you know, *when your favorite character is absent* – would lessen the blow, but no. You'll almost end up throwing your e-reader, mistaking it for a good old-fashioned, durable book... But no matter, after seriously considering DNFing it, I powered through, and surprise of surprises, *Monster Hunter Alpha* by Larry Correia was actually cool and fun, the bloodiest so far, but ultima...

Oh my gosh! This installment of the series is absolutely amazing! Honestly, if you love fantasy and paranormal action, this series is a MUST-read. There's a touch of romance, but it's not the main focus. The Monster Hunter International's ongoing battle against evil monsters is the core of these books, and even though I'm a huge romance fan, I wouldn't have it any other way! We get so close to many of the characters; they don't even feel like characters in a book. They're so real, so human (even...

This book, "Monster Hunter Alpha" by Larry Correia, felt like a bit of a detour for the series. The first two books are written in the first person, focusing on the same main character, Owen. "Monster Hunter Alpha" leaves Owen behind, switching to a third-person perspective. I understand why it had to be that way. This story is all about Earl, and Owen's involvement would have felt forced. That being said, the shift was pretty jarring for me. Losing the main character I'd been following for two ...

A Howling Good Adventure - 5 Stars Random Ramblings When diving into a book series, I always feel the third installment is the most telling. By then, patterns emerge. Often, the second book echoes the plot points that made the first a hit. But if the third book just repeats those same elements, I start to lose interest. However, if the author introduces fresh storylines, characters, and plot twists, my interest is seriously piqued.*Monster Hunter Alpha* by Larry Correia is a shining example ...

Hands down, the best *Monster Hunter Alpha* book yet. The highest praise I can give Larry Correia's latest is that I simply couldn't put it down. I stayed up way past my bedtime to finish it. Compared to the other MHI titles, I really appreciated the focus on Earl Harbinger instead of Owen. I've always found him to be a more compelling character. The story in *Monster Hunter Alpha* also felt more 'real' to me than the previous books in the series. Really awesome book. Loads of fun. Highly recomm...

This is the third book in the "Monster Hunter International" series, and frankly… it's fantastic. Well, if you're a card-carrying member of the high-brow, elite, avant-garde literary snob society, then maybe not. You, my friends, are far too good for this and all the other "stuff" read by us action-loving readers of brain candy. You poor things, I feel for you. That said, *Monster Hunter Alpha* by Larry Correia will appeal to so many people. Urban fantasy readers, action junkies, horror fans… it'...

Welcome to the Werepocalypse...Lovecraftian-style.5 easy, no-doubt-about-it stars for this smart, well-crafted and FUNbelievably entertaining popcorn-fest of gun-metal, monsters and the baddest minotaur coat-wearing, creature-killing, Alpha werewolf to ever come down the pike. This is a high-quality, well-written page-turner that is a blast to read and yet will not leave you feeling the pangs of having indulged in too much brain candy. This is a guilt-free pleasure. I'm going to digress a bit be...

I've been putting off this review because, honestly, I really didn't like *Monster Hunter Alpha* by Larry Correia. It bounced between boring me to outright annoying me. But when I read it, a bunch of my friends were super into Correia, and I didn't want to harsh their mellow. It was just… boring, trite, ripped straight from a bunch of action flicks. A total snooze-fest.Plus, Correia comes off as kind of a hater. I hate to even send traffic to his blog, but his most recent post was making fun of ...
