Susanna Kearsley's Mariana: A Time-Slip Novel is an intriguing mix of historical romance and modern mystery. While the book has its moments, it doesn't quite hit the mark in several areas, leaving you feeling like it could have been so much more.First off, Kearsley's writing is smooth and keeps you hooked, making it easy to get lost in the story. She's got a real knack for painting vivid pictures that whisk you away to different eras, creating this lovely, nostalgic vibe. The way she blends the ...

I love reading Susanna Kearsley because she transports me to another world, just as she does her time-traveling characters, and I spend my time there, forgetting this world of mine exists. Her books, like the philosophy of her characters, bring you full circle; they give you a sense that there is order and balance in the world and that what we do not achieve in this one, we might achieve in the next. ”It’s all rather like a circle, you know,” she went on, “Life is. You start off in one place and...

It enveloped me like a warm, cozy blanket...surrounded me with peace, a desire not to rush, and to simply exist within the story...Nothing complicated, nothing fancy, and nothing excessive. Time travel...love...losses...discoveries... Everything typical of a light summer romance. That's what won me over. I didn't race through the pages, eager to find out the ending, but instead savored the atmosphere described by the author...infused with English style and delicious strokes of nature. I found pl...

3.5 stars. I've read most of Susanna Kearsley's recent books, but I've bought a lot of her older ones on Kindle sales over the years that I still need to get to. *Mariana: A Time-Slip Novel* is one of those, and while I really liked parts of it, in other ways it shows its age (written about 30 years ago). Kearsley's definitely grown as an author since then. The main character, 29-year-old Julia Beckett, has been inexplicably and powerfully drawn to a historic home called Greywethers in an Engli...

This was written so beautifully! I think I might have just discovered a new favorite author. I picked up Mariana: A Time-Slip Novel based on a friend's recommendation, and I'm so glad I did! Thank you, Frances :)This book has a little bit of everything I love...an old English country house (with its own unique history,) a story that weaves between the past and present (time travel!), and a touch of romance.Definitely a 5-star plus! If you're looking for captivating historical fiction, Susanna Ke...

An absolutely astounding tale, so beautifully written that you'll find yourself completely lost within its pages. It's one of my all-time favorites, and I recently gave "Mariana: A Time-Slip Novel" as a gift. I was thrilled to hear how much my friend loved it! She told me she devoured it in a single sitting and has already read it twice more. This book is definitely one to keep on your shelf and is highly recommended for fans of time-slip novels. Well done, Susanna Kearsley!

The inspiration behind Greyweathers in Avebury, WiltshireOhhh, you guys. I seriously don't know what I'm going to do when I run out of Susanna Kearsley's books to read. After finishing The Rose Garden a few days ago, I told myself to wait at least a few weeks before diving into this one – you know, to savor it, so I wouldn't go into full-blown withdrawal. I even picked up The Forgotten Garden because I'd heard Kate Morton's stuff was similar, but even after 100 pages, it just didn't grab me. All...

"Mariana: A Time-Slip Novel" isn't exactly the kind of book I usually pick up. Set in a quaint English village, it's fundamentally a romance about two lovers torn apart 300 years ago, their love so powerful they're reincarnated to finally find each other. Personally, I prefer my books with a bit more of an edge: the mystery more mysterious, the romance a little hotter. So, it's no surprise I initially found "Mariana: A Time-Slip Novel" a tad old-fashioned. You won't find anything shocking or exp...

If I could write, I would have written Susanna Kearsley's *Mariana: A Time-Slip Novel*.... There are some books that sneak into your reading life and touch you in ways you can't quite articulate. They're not always literary classics, or even particularly famous, but for some reason, you're so completely absorbed that after turning the final page, you close the book and think, "Okay, that's a keeper." That's precisely how I felt about *Mariana: A Time-Slip Novel*, a story about the redemptive p...
