Lois Duncan (born Lois Duncan Steinmetz) was an American writer and novelist, known primarily for her books for children and young adults, in particular (and some times controversially considering her young readership) crime thrillers. Burn it to a crispโ€”this book is absolute garbage! ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ”ฅ-->๐Ÿ—‘๏ธLois Duncan, may she haunt the soul of the moron editor who reworked the book and tried to "modernize" it. ๐Ÿ‘ป Emails and letters do not serve the same function, and "papers getting lost" is an 80s thing. The plot of "Locked in Time" doesnโ€™t work when you fast forward 30 years and computers have something called a โ€œfile.โ€ A file is something that you can copy and pasteโ€”idiot editor did NOT get that!! ๐ŸคฆWould Romeo & Juliet be cooler if t...

"Why would any woman laugh at the concept of something so gloriously fulfilling as a mother having her children with her forever?"Locked in Time by Lois Duncan One of Duncan's best. She crafts an incredible mystery using a wonderful premise, combining a historical element with the here and now, and it's a real page-turner! This suspenseful young adult novel is perfect for fans of Lois Duncan.First off, the whole story takes place in Louisiana, and the whole Southern Gothic element is beautifully ...

A gothic tale about being trapped in eternal life, focusing on voodoo rather than vampires. **Locked in Time** by Lois Duncan was a profoundly significant and formative book for me. I believe I first read it when I was around 10 years old, and then probably another four times between the ages of 10 and 13. As far as young adult book reviews go, this one stuck with me.

Plot:Nore Robbins spends the summer in southern Louisiana getting to know her new step-family. She's a little resentful that her father remarried so soon after her mother's death, but she tries to approach her step-mom and step-siblings with an open mind. Her step-mom is a beautiful woman named Lisette Berge, who has a teenage son named Gabe (who clearly has the hots for his new stepsister) and a young daughter named Josie, a sullen thirteen-year-old prone to tantrums. They live in Shadow Grove,...

I honestly have no idea why, but *Locked in Time* by Lois Duncan scared me half to death when I was a kid. So much so that I actually hid the book behind my parents' bookcase! I can't even remember anything being *that* terrifying about the story itself, but I was genuinely afraid of the physical book. Looking back, that's pretty strange. For a while, I also thought the ghost of Abraham Lincoln was hanging out in my closet. I don't think any particular book caused that delusion, though. I was jus...

Lois Duncan excels at crafting atmosphere, both in terms of the setting and the emotions it evokes. The story, set in Louisiana, features incredibly vivid descriptions of the surroundings and even the weather. Duncan establishes a genuinely creepy vibe right from the start, although I felt the foreshadowing was a little too obvious. I think I would have absolutely loved *Locked in Time* had I read it in middle school. It's not childish or anything, but perhaps "shallow" is the word I'd use. The...

I'm reading all of my son's Accelerated Reader (AR) books for school alongside him so we can discuss them, and I can make sure he's actually reading rather than just flipping pages. Haha. He hasn't finished *Locked in Time* yet, so it will be interesting to get his perspective. *Locked in Time* was interesting and fast-paced enough to keep you reading, but I had a few major issues with it. First, the entire book is premised on the idea that the only thing of concern for the female characters is ...

Fun fact: *Locked in Time* is easily my favorite Lois Duncan book, and it was the very first one of hers that I ever read. Total nostalgia!Itโ€™s just as suspenseful as her other books, but it also has this cool, slightly Gothic vibe. There's this huge question (at least, when I read it) about how much is actually real and how much is just in Nore's imagination. (I seriously love stories like that, where you're never quite sure what the real story actually is.) It keeps you guessing, which is what...

This is my least favorite of Lois Duncan's books. Itโ€™s also the only one I DIDN'T read as a teen since it was published after I had graduated from the YA section (and yes, there WAS a YA section at my library back in those olden days. YA DID exist pre-Twilight, you know). I don't know if *Locked in Time* packs less of a punch than her earlier works because it was written later in her career, or if Lois Duncan is best read when one is young and just discovering supernatural suspense fiction. Look...

So, I've mentioned my Joan Lowery Nixon phase before. Actually, I think I discovered Lois Duncan right before Nixon, but the two will always be linked in my mind. Together, they perfectly quenched my twelve-year-old thirst for a light blend of suspense and the macabre. And no book by Duncan did that better than the deliciously creepy *Locked in Time*. I enjoyed all of her books, and they all succeeded in giving me the chills at one point or another. My old copy of *I Know What You Did Last Summe...
