Okay, I genuinely hated this book. Grace, the female main character, was a total doormat. The male main character was a complete idiot (I pictured him as Henry Cavill because I can't stand him). I imagined Grace's father as Ben Franklin because they're the same kind of clueless jerk. Seriously, NONE of the men in "Grace: A Regency Romance" by Beverley Watts could take responsibility for anything. There was no pining, no begging for forgiveness. He basically kicked her out of their house for thre...

3 stars for Grace: A Regency Romance (audiobook) by Beverley Watts, read by Eilidh Beaton and Mark Elstob.

So, I gave Regency romance another shot, and I just don’t think it’s for me. I know I’m not exactly the target audience, and the story was okay, but I just don’t get what all the fuss is about. If you're looking for audiobook reviews, this one might not be for you.

This could have been so greatThis is a novella, so it gets 3 stars because I judge them less harshly than novels. But it came really close to being a 2-star read. 🌹 The good For such a short book, it managed to deliver great laughs and quick but unexpectedly poignant angst. You know that angst when a character is 'my lorded'/'your graced' when they least expect it? Damn, the delivery had me almost crying. Beverley Watts really knows how to pack an emotional punch, even in a short historical ...

3.5 stars 🌟 "Grace: A Regency Romance" is the first book in a series about eight sisters and one brother, all saddled with a hopelessly inept father. He's desperately trying to marry off his daughters to save some money for his five-year-old son's inheritance.Grace, the eldest daughter, ends up marrying a Duke who proposes to her sight unseen. The Duke is haunted by terrible war nightmares and tries to suppress his emotions after losing loved ones. 🥲😂 If you enjoy Regency romance book reviews...

Amazon suggested "Grace: A Regency Romance" to me, claiming it was a romantic comedy in the vein of The Bridgertons. The problem? It lacks originality, the plot is utterly predictable, the characters are underdeveloped, and it's simply not funny. As far as romance book reviews go, I'd give this one a hard pass. I definitely wouldn't recommend "Grace: A Regency Romance" by Beverley Watts to anyone looking for a lighthearted read.

Dull and uninterestingI practically skipped through Beverley Watts's *Grace: A Regency Romance* just to try and finish it. It seemed as if the story lacked any coherence. It started out with a brave, witty, sharp-tongued girl, but soon she was just forgiving and in love and ready to jump into bed. It just didn’t make sense. The guy fell in love so quickly too, so really, what was the whole point of the story? He never once apologized for his disappearances and his hot-and-cold treatment or keepi...

Better than the Second BookI enjoyed this story about a Duke and a country girl. There were so many misunderstandings, and he was so pompous it was awful! When he kicked her out, I actually teared up a bit for her. She was so heartbroken, and then he leaves her alone for a couple of months, I think. The Father is a bumbling fool, but he's got a good heart. And Percy, his curate, is the perfect accomplice. The scene where The Father dressed up as a woman was hilarious. The hero and heroine of Bev...

Reverend Shackleford had eight daughters (three of marriageable age) and one son. I guess his antics and drinking with his curate pal at the tavern were supposed to be funny? Three stars. Nicholas and Grace met and instantly disliked each other. Nick informed the Reverend he intended to marry one of his daughters. By week's end, he'd married Grace, only to promptly abandon her for a trip to Scotland. Nick came across as perpetually brooding and haunted by flashbacks of his time in the Royal Nav...

DNF at 2%. I'm just not in the headspace for a romantic "comedy" that kicks off with a father who dislikes all his daughters and only cares about their potential to rake in the dough for his son's benefit.

It just makes me sad. As a romance book review, this one's going back on the shelf.

Read: 5/26/242.5 starsThis novella was just okay! Thankfully, it was a quick read and free on Kindle Unlimited. I would've rated it lower if I'd actually paid for it.Beverley Watts had the foundation for a good story, but she didn't really develop the characters. It felt like she couldn't decide whether she wanted to write a serious book about wounded soldiers or a sweet romance. As a result, she didn't succeed at either.I won't be checking out the other books in the series. If you're looking fo...
