The Midas saga
Book two in a series. Since I hadn't read book one, I felt a little lost at first, missing some of the backstory. But even so, *Gilded Crown* by Julie Mannino is a well-written and engaging read. The pacing is spot-on, the simmering, unrequited feelings between the main characters are intriguing, and the alternate world is richly imagined. If you're looking for a compelling fantasy book review, give *Gilded Crown* a try!

Jari's stupidity is still infuriating AF. I almost levitated when he followed the king INTO the king's rooms and hid behind an armchair, of all things, like an absolute dunce. Of course, the paranoid, crazed king practically immediately found him, which then resulted in a kill-or-be-killed situation, forcing Jari to kill him in the most 'look at me, I've been assassinated' way. He's like a himbo, except there's nothing charming or cute about the fact that there's literally no thinking going on i...

This is my first Julie Mannino book, and I have to say, *Gilded Crown* is a seriously engaging M/M romance and a fantastic fairytale-inspired story. It's all about Jari's promise to protect Aurelius, despite their history and the betrayal that happened between them. What really makes *Gilded Crown* shine is the romantic connection between Jari and Aurelius. It builds so well, even though they start with this uneasy, tense vibe. I was totally hooked reading their story, and there were a couple of...

"Gilded Crown" tells the story of Jari and Aurelius, and let me tell you, their past is *complicated*. Jari vows to protect Aurelius, even with all that history between them. The whole thing plays out in a kingdom practically overflowing with lurking dangers and juicy secrets. This book is pure suspense mixed with romance. Jari and Aurelius? Their relationship is TENSE, but you can feel the attraction simmering underneath. Watching them maneuver through the treacherous court, uncovering hidden tr...

Murder/attempted.
Loss of parent.
War and all the violence that comes with that.
