Served Australian army, including war service in the Vietnam War in 1968 - 1969. Came home to public shunning of Vietnam Veterans and discrimination against Vietnam Veterans by potential employers. This resulted in the setting up of the first business, (contract fencing) because I could not get a job. In due course, I...

A genuinely interesting book, offering a compelling perspective on the early Middle Ages and the genesis of England! The first-person narrative is a brilliant way to immerse the reader in the events, though it's a pity this approach isn't sustained throughout the entire book. I also stumbled upon a disconcerting number of spelling, grammatical, and duplication errors, which was unexpected given the book's high rating. Overall, "England AD: Birth of a Nation" by Michael G. Kramer is a great read,...

This book, "England AD: Birth of a Nation", is absolutely packed with historical facts and dives right in, ditching any unnecessary preamble. I've previously read Michael Kramer's "For The Love Of Armin," which has a similar vibe. "England AD: Birth of a Nation" is written in the first-person narrative—by a ghost, no less! Now what?! It's like an entire semester of history class crammed into a single book. It really brings history to life, making it accessible and entertaining, almost like stepp...

Michael G. Kramer's "England AD: Birth of a Nation" is an interesting and pretty ambitious book that wraps up historical facts with a great fictional story. Germanic tribes, Saxons, Vikings, warlords, and a ghost called Horsa—it's all here. There's a ton of detail, so you know the author has done his research, and there’s also enough action packed in alongside that I would imagine it will resonate well with young adult readers, too. All in all, I really enjoyed "England AD: Birth of a Nation", a...

History brought to lifeAustralian author Michael Kramer, with degrees in architecture and engineering already under his belt, now adds Arts to his impressive repertoire. Michael served in the Australian Army during the Vietnam War from 1968-1969. He’s published three books previously – FULL CIRCLE FOR MICK, based on the Vietnam War and its aftermath; ANGLO-SAXON INVASION; and FOR THE LOVE OF ARMIN. The latter two examine ancient history, particularly the Roman conquests. Michael's a meticulous r...

There's a wealth of historical facts presented in a really engaging way in "England AD: Birth of a Nation". I don't usually pick up history books, but this one was a genuinely pleasant surprise. It's clear that Michael G. Kramer put a ton of time into research and has a deep understanding of the period. I really appreciate when authors dedicate themselves to thorough research. The story itself is fictional, spanning many years, but it remains consistently interesting to follow, and I think that'...

Michael G. Kramer's "England AD: Birth of a Nation" is a powerful blend of historical fact and fictional storytelling. The sheer depth of Kramer's knowledge is captivating; it's clear he's poured an immense amount of well-considered research into this book. We start with the early days of the Germanic tribes and journey through the reigns of the early English kings. The story unfolds through the spectral eyes of Horsa, a Kimbern warlord. Through this unique perspective, Kramer delves into the ex...

Michael G. Kramer's "England AD: Birth of a Nation" – now what a title! – is an intense dive into historical facts, all cleverly woven into a fictionalized narrative. The sheer depth of knowledge Kramer displays is fascinating; you can tell this book is the product of a great deal of thoughtful research. We start with the early days of the Germanic tribes and journey through to the early English kings. The story unfolds through the ghost of Horsa, a Kimbern warlord, and it’s through this spectra...

In 449 A.D., Vortigern reigned as king of the Britons, desperately seeking aid to repel the Picts and Scots. These northern tribes were exploiting breaches in Hadrian's Wall to raid his people, a consequence of the Roman withdrawal from Britain in 417 A.D. With no assistance forthcoming from within, Vortigern turned to the newly allied tribes of the Engels, Kimbern, and Saxons, inviting them to his aid. They answered his call, leading to the Saxons settling in Wessex, Essex, and other regions, w...
