How did the promise of a war between gods devolve into a middling historical fiction with a lackluster romance and barely a hint of fantasy? I'm honestly a bit stunned.I went into *Divine Rivals (Letters of Enchantment, #1)* with high expectations. I'd seen the gushing reviews and the deluge of 5-star ratings. And I'd developed a taste for romantasy and I wanted more. In fact, I was so certain I was going to love this that I saved it for just the right moment when I'd need a little extra zing in...

This. Book.Academic rivals to lovers with the cutest, purest, most wholesome man while there is a violent war raging between gods?! Utter perfection.Roman C. Kitt now owns my entire heart. 🫶🏻 The letters he writes to Iris (via typewriter!! I mean, come on!!!) are enough to make him one of the best book boyfriends of all time. I adore this man.(Let it be known that there is so much more to this story than the romance. The writing is beautiful, too.)Inject every word of Rebecca Ross's *Divine Ri...

4.5 stars! I went into this thinking it was going to be your typical enemies-to-lovers romantasy, but it's not at all! *Divine Rivals* by Rebecca Ross was such a pleasantly different read. It is SO beautifully written. And I loved how Roman and Iris's relationship was so vulnerable and emotional. Overall, this was a very raw and beautiful read about love, letters, and war. My only wish is that we got to delve more into the gods, the mythology, and the politics of the war, but based on how *Divin...

Did I finish *Divine Rivals* by Rebecca Ross, or did *Divine Rivals* finish *me*?! 🫣Oh my gawwwwwd! Perfect! Perfect! Perfect! Everything down to the last minute detail! This book felt absolutely heavenly. It touched me deep down in my soul and had me completely possessed! 👹Iris and Roman had my whole body creased and shivering. From their banter, their rivalry, their letters… like, gahhh damn, they were so perfectly made for each other. The way Roman literally dropped *everything* to be with ...

"you are worthy of love. you are worthy to feel joy right now, even in the darkness.”
This story follows two young rival journalists, Roman and Iris. These characters take us into their lives as people working for a newspaper covering the war. Both are vying for a promotion as columnist in this cutthroat environment. Against the backdrop of their cutthroat rivalry, a war between gods rages on. Their fierce rivalry takes an unexpected turn when they unknowingly start writin...

✅ Reread (Sept 2023) I am sobbing and in pain *again* after that ending. I swear, *Divine Rivals* by Rebecca Ross might be the most beautiful book written this year. It's all things good and all things pure. If you haven't read it yet, trust me, you are missing out on something special 😭Roman Carver Kitt has my heart. Everything he does is sheer perfection, and his love for Iris speaks volumes. Book boyfriend material? Heck no. He is husband material 🥹❤~•~•~Original Review (July 2023) I DID NO...

The world-building in *Divine Rivals* is so inconsistent it's laughable. At one point, the main male character declares his love for summer because baseball season is back, and while they have elevators and electricity, they're still using typewriters. The war feels like it's ripped straight out of World War I, but then there's magic and gods thrown in. The romance is just awful. The dialogue is so cheesy and cringeworthy that it completely ruins any chance of a cozy, fun read. It's just plain w...

So much potential, completely wasted. This book is set during a war between gods, and all we get is a magical typewriter and a super bland "rivals" to lovers romance. Maybe I should have started with Rebecca Ross's other book instead. Honestly, for a fantasy romance book review, this one's a miss. *Divine Rivals* just didn't deliver.

This story feels like catching a glimpse of light when you're surrounded by what seems like endless darkness.
It's amazing how Rebecca Ross has taken the horrors of war and woven a story that guides you to focus on hope, new beginnings, and finding comfort. Just like that glimmer of light. It's truly lovely.
And it's all thanks to the writing. There's such a light and ethereal quality to it, which helps lift the weight of the heavy and traumatic events in the plot. The writing really fits bot...
