This is the first book I finished in 2022, and it might just be the best fiction I read all year – I loved it that much! This book continues Ross and Demelza's journey, and while I don't think the beginning was quite as strong as Ross Poldark, it becomes a very powerful book from about the 40% mark. While Ross is a very complex character, Demelza is simple in the best possible way – when something feels right to her, she does it and thinks about the consequences later. All the characters, whatever...

I'm absolutely hooked on the new BBC adaptation of the Poldark saga, so naturally, I had to dive into the books! What I find fascinating is that most adaptations follow a one-book-per-series format. But this show? They've crammed two novels into each season! That’s a 500+ page novel condensed into a mere four episodes! The reason these books are so beloved is the sheer strength of the characters and the captivating setting they inhabit. Cornwall truly leaps off the page; it’s practically a cha...

This book is featured on Shabby Sunday @ https://readrantrockandroll.com/2018/...This is one of my absolute favorite Poldark books. In *Demelza (Poldark, #2)*, Ross Poldark and Demelza are now happily married and expecting their first child, Julia. Demelza struggles a bit with the marriage, facing challenges, including Elizabeth’s lingering presence in Ross's thoughts. Even though Elizabeth is married to Francis, she can't forget Ross and is determined to make her marriage work and win his true ...

Ross sighed. "You have married into a peculiar family. You must never expect the Poldarks to behave in the most rational manner. I have long since given up expecting it. We are hasty -- quite incredibly hasty, it seems -- and sharp-tempered, strong in our likes and dislikes and unreasonable in them."*Demelza (Poldark, #2)* is the second book in the Poldark Series by Winston Graham. This story builds beautifully upon the first book in the series. Ross Poldark, returning to the ruins of his belove...

5 STARSI am completely engrossed in this series now. This is the second book in the Poldark series, which was first published back in the 1940s. I was encouraged to read the books after first watching the recently released television series on BBC.The series centers around the life of Ross Poldark, who is a dark and broody character, arrogant and strong, yet often overly compassionate in his nature. It is the late 1780s, and he has returned from war to his home in Cornwall, England, only to find...

Okay, it might have taken two books instead of just one, but I'm now head-over-heels for Ross and Demelza.

This series, the Poldark series, is simply wonderful! Winston Graham is a master storyteller.

In this second novel of Winston Graham's Poldark family saga, set in Cornwall in the late 1780s, Ross casually suggests a couple of ways to break the copper companies' monopoly that's keeping prices at a poverty level. As a result, he spends the better part of two years organizing a coalition of gentlemen who realize it's a matter of sink or swim for their mines. Meanwhile, Demelza schemes on Verity's behalf to change her single status. Demelza loves and admires Verity (Ross's cousin) and doesn...

I will always be Team Demelza At the back of his mind, Ross was aware of the sound of wind rushing about in the distance. Once, when he glanced out of the bedroom window, his eyes confirmed that the swell had, in fact, quite broken up and the sea was stippled with white-lipped waves, which crossed and recrossed each other in confusion, running heedlessly, colliding, and breaking up into wisps of futile spray. The wind was as yet only gusty on the land, but here and there eddies rushed over the...

"Loyalty is not a thing to be bought: it is freely given or withheld."5 radiant stars! I thought I could perhaps get hooked on the Poldark series, but Demelza, the second book in the series, really sealed the deal for me! There is absolutely no turning back now – I am thoroughly invested in the lives of these complex characters. Winston Graham breathes so much life into each and every one that you feel as if you’ve already known these folks for a long time. You live with them, you love them, you...

The BBC's new version of Poldark wrapped up this weekend with a heartbreaking cliffhanger. Over the past eight episodes (covering the first two books), I completely fell for Ross and Demelza, played by the ridiculously handsome Aidan Turner and the beautiful Eleanor Tomlinson. Their chemistry was off the charts, conveying so much emotion, passion, and inner conflict, and they turned me into a total puddle! After the finale, I immediately wanted to dive into the third book to see what happens nex...
