Charlaine Harris has been a published writer for over forty years. Her first two books were standalones, followed by a long sabbatical when she was having children. Then she began the Aurora Teagarden book, mysteries featuring a short librarian (eventually adapted for Hallmark movies). The darker Lily Bard books came n...

True Blood book 5: Another installment of the charming and fairly original Southern vampire fantasy drama meets soap opera: someone or some people are shooting Shifters; Jason turns into a panther(!?), it seems someone or some people are after Sookie (business as usual); and Tara realizes her supernatural boyfriend is also, like, *super*. As always, the multiple storylines keep me entertained because at least 2 or 3 of them are actually pretty interesting. The multiple plots are the key thing t...

The pacing remains consistently strong throughout the series. I appreciate how each book, including Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Stackhouse, #5) by Charlaine Harris, picks up precisely where the previous one ended, launching straight into the next major catastrophe. Rinse and repeat.I know exactly what I'm in for every time I pick up a Sookie Stackhouse book, and I'm never disappointed. If you're looking for vampire book reviews, or just a fun read, Harris delivers.Funny, sexy, over the top = my f...

*** 3.55 ***\n \"...“Fiction just makes it all more interesting. Truth is so boring.”...\"\nThis one was entertaining and much less angsty than the previous couple, which, of course, is a good thing 😋. Sookie is still single, and several different guys have been showing some romantic interest in her, but it seems that all of them come with a ton of complications attached. On top of her money problems, the bar where she works is riddled with incidents of violence, and her brother is becoming a ...

A decent read, but Sookie Stackhouse's attraction to every available guy (and the reverse!) made me roll my eyes so hard. I kept thinking, "Not again! What about Bill, Eric, Alcide, Sam… the list goes on!" It’s a bit much in "Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Stackhouse, #5)" by Charlaine Harris. If you're looking for supernatural book reviews, this one's a mixed bag.

2 Stars - Barely Making It Sookie Stackhouse is a: (If that’s not clear, it’s a supernatural being magnet… and, also, a REALLY bad pun. You're welcome!) ALL (okay, okay, almost ALL) the soups supes in the area around Sookie’s hometown of Bon Temps want to make an honest woman out of her. She gets a *ton* of offers in Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Stackhouse, #5), it's pretty infuriating. No matter what magical perfume she's wearing, I'm not buying it, and it feels like a flimsy excuse to have all ...

(B+) 78% | Good
Notes: A welcome breather from its romance-heavy predecessors, *Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Stackhouse, #5)* effectively lays the groundwork for a genuinely satisfying mystery to unfold. If you are looking for fun mystery book reviews, this one is a solid pick.

Sigh. Sookie, Sookie, Sookie, your fashion sense is still stuck in the eighties. I blame Charlaine Harris, who no doubt thinks she's writing you up to date. I myself did a face palm when I read about your lipstick matching your red earrings and your red socks with your black work pants. Yeah, I did that in junior high, too. Questionable fashion aside, I still really enjoy this character. She had some tough times in "Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Stackhouse, #5)", what with having no sexual escapade...

Oh, Sookie, Sookie. Another fun read, but I’m not feeling quite as hyped about Sookie and her crew after this one. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed *Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Stackhouse, #5)* by Charlaine Harris. Thoroughly. And you can bet your bottom dollar I’ve already put a hold on #6 at the library and I'm checking my account like a hawk for that notification. But some of the magic felt like it was missing this time around. At the start of *Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Stackhouse, #5)*, Calvin ...

(B+) 78% | GoodNotes: With plenty of wolfish behavior and passionate hearts, this is, for me, the best in the series: a fun mystery and—thankfully—not obsessed with bloody sex.*Check out progress updates for detailed commentary: Progress updates:11/14/2025 - Preamble(1) I don't remember anything about this from my first time around, except two things:- It's the first one where the central plot/concept wasn't adapted by the TV show.- It's my favorite book in the series—the only one I gave 4 stars...

Another solid entry in the Sookie Stackhouse series. I enjoyed the story in *Dead as a Doornail*, but something's been bugging me since book one. It feels like Charlaine Harris sometimes struggles to keep the details consistent. I get that she's written a TON, and mixing up details happens, but a good editor should catch these discrepancies...For example:- (Book 1) "Fang-bangers" became "fangbangers." (Not a huge deal, but the hyphen was there originally, so keep it.)- (Books 1-5) Kevin Prior mo...
