(B+) 77% | GoodNotes: British-quaint, unrestrained by any single theme (confections, cars, and crime!), a kiddish tone with adult bones, and distinctly of its time.*Check out progress updates for detailed commentary: Progress updates:05/18/2025 - Preamble(1) This is one of those cases where the film's far more popular, but I've only ever read the book, Ian Fleming's **Chitty Chitty Bang Bang**.- Otherwise, I'd have outfitted these updates with GIFs, as is my wont. Though I hear the film's a big ...

This book, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, is about a family that buys a beat-up car. But this isn't just any car; it's got more to it than they ever imagined, and soon they're off on a wild adventure! Fun fact: it was written by Ian Fleming, the same author who created James Bond.
I honestly had a blast with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I listened to the audiobook version, and I think that really boosted my enjoyment. David Tennant narrates it, and he's absolutely terrific. He's done tons of audiobooks, ...

4.5 Stars for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (audiobook) by Ian Fleming, read by Andrew Sachs.
This was a fantastic story! It really highlights just how creative Ian Fleming truly was. I think I might have caught the movie version ages ago when I was a kid, but I had absolutely no clue it was based on a book. This audiobook was a real treat. If you're looking for fun kids' books or audiobooks, definitely give Chitty Chitty Bang Bang a listen!

The story in Ian Fleming's *Chitty Chitty Bang Bang* is a true gift to the young, and the young at heart. It's a classic children's book that continues to delight. If you're looking for heartwarming kids' book reviews, look no further!

I think every avid reader has a list (even if it's just in their head and not actually written down) of books they would like to read, but never seem to find the time. My list of "someday" reads is quite extensive, but I've vowed that this year I will read more books from my own library shelves and also more books off my I'd-really-love-to-read-that list.
When I found out years ago that Ian Fleming (author of all those lovely 007 spy novels) wrote a children's book that one my favorite children...

"Never say no to adventures. Always say yes. Otherwise you'll lead a very dull life."Too, too cute! I'm so glad *Chitty Chitty Bang Bang* was chosen for a buddy read; it's such a lighthearted kids' novel. The way Commander Pott took care of the car totally reminded me of my dad—washing, waxing, a spot check before *and* after driving. Total dad vibes! So, the book isn't really anything like the movie, which I kind of expected, but it was still brilliant. The kids are brave, the father is ingeniou...

While he's most famous for creating Agent 007, Ian Fleming penned this classic children's story many years ago, and it's just as entertaining and captivating for young readers today. Commander Caractacus Pott has a long history of inventing things, which brings limited success and forces the family to tighten their belts during financial struggles. After selling one of his inventions to a local candy shop, the Potts set out to buy their first family car. Commander Pott brings his wife (Mimsie) a...

I've been itching to read *Chitty Chitty Bang Bang* ever since I learned Ian Fleming wrote it. It's his only non-James Bond novel, and it's a wonderfully weird little thing.
If, like me, all you know of *Chitty Chitty Bang Bang* is the movie, prepare for some surprises. The original book barely resembles the film. Some characters are different, and the plot is wildly different. I'd love to see a new movie adaptation, maybe animated instead of live-action, that actually sticks to the book.

Notes: Is this the real world, or is it magical? This family is much too quick to accept that their car is enchanted and sentient. When reading Ian Fleming's *Chitty Chitty Bang Bang*, you have to wonder, is this grounded in reality, or are we diving headfirst into a fantasy? The story's charm hinges on the family's almost immediate embrace of the fact that their car is not only special, but genuinely alive. A fun read, but maybe suspend your disbelief a little *too* readily.

Back in elementary school, when my best friend was desperately trying to get me to appreciate the wholesome, family-friendly goodness of *Chitty Chitty Bang Bang*, I basically told him, "I'm not interested in your *Shitty Shitty Gang Bang*." This was a time when he was jamming out to Weird Al, and I was busy learning how to headbang to Quiet Riot.
Fast forward about 30 years… I've finally read *Chitty Chitty Bang Bang* by Ian Fleming, and I get it! This book is a pure delight! It's got quirky c...
