“The only other calling I ever felt was an irrepressible desire to be Captain of my own Starship. I was born in the wrong century and it wasn’t possible, so I chose to explore the universe by writing fiction instead. Books are doors to endless adventure.” -KMMKaren Marie Moning is the #1 NYT bestselling author of the F...

Karen Marie Moning's *Beyond the Highland Mist* – the first book in her Highlander series. Think historical time travel romance. Adrienne finds herself magically zapped from modern-day Seattle to 16th-century Scotland where, to her dismay, she's forced into marriage. Hawk, on the other hand, is utterly captivated by this outspoken and opinionated woman, unlike anyone he's ever encountered. I struggled a bit at the start with the scene of the maid being beaten. And then, of course, the non-conse...

3 stars Hmm, I'm really on the fence about this one. I only picked this up because I started Karen Marie Moning's Fever series and wanted to see if she had any other must-reads I could dive into after finishing that. (Plus, I was craving a historical romance) The story had a definite fairytale vibe, especially with the supernatural elements (and I'm not just talking about the time travel). The main characters felt pretty cookie-cutter in that sense, too. I wasn't really feeling the way the hero ...

FOUR HIGHLAND STARS.It was about time for me to read this author, who was new to me. I was craving an epic, toe-curling romance – a love story that would completely sweep me off my feet – and Karen Marie Moning's *Beyond the Highland Mist* delivered! This book provided the perfect escape, and I couldn't have asked for anything more. An utterly dreamy start to a series that I just know I'm going to fall head-over-heels for. ... Book two, here I come! *Buddy read with the bezzie ...* Lookin...

4.5 starsReviewed by: Rabid ReadsBeyond the Highland Mist by Karen Marie Moning was the first paranormal romance I ever read. Seriously, the book that started it all for me.Over 10 years ago, the only books I'd read that even came close to PNR or UF were Anne Rice novels (and if you've read Anne Rice, you know they're in a league of their own and not quite the same thing). I don’t think I even picked up my first modern fantasy book (not Narnia or LOTR) until my freshman year of college with The ...

Fans of Mac and Barrons, steer clear of this offensive garbage heap. Seriously. This is a fantasy tale about 'Adrienne De Simone,' a beautiful, man-hating orphan (but not really; seriously, if you have any feminist leanings, avoid this book) who gets zapped back in time and lands right in the lap of a violent laird, all because a fairy queen's lover is jealous.Conveniently, this works out for both the creepy old laird and Adrienne. He's just offed his mad daughter right before she was supposed to...

What a difference an audiobook makes... And especially one with a fantastic narrator!!! Let's just say that from my original 2-star rating, I jumped to 4 stars in my reread with the audiobook. Phil Gigante makes everything interesting; the first half was absolutely amazing, and I would've given it 5 stars if the main woman wasn't such a moron, but oh well, it can't be perfect. Anyway, all I have to say for the readers: Grab the audiobooks of this series!!! You won't regret it! Looking for a gre...

What's going to make you pick this one up? If it's anything like: “Mmm, I really like Karen Marie Moning's Fever series...Mac 3.0 was alright and Mac 4.0 kicked some ass. And Barrons...oh Barrons! That hot, carnal, cantankerous badass... So why not try Karen Marie Moning's other series?” Well, let's just say you're in for a surprise. Beyond the Highland Mist is nothing like the Fever series. Need proof to back up that bold statement? How about this?\"The thing about the room that struck her so h...

2 1/2 to 3 starsI'm actually glad I jumped into this series a bit randomly (you totally *can* read them out of order). Honestly, I'm not sure I would have kept going if I'd started with the first three. For me, the series didn't really grab me until after book three. Books four, five, and six are my absolute favorites, with book six, *The Immortal Highlander*, being my number one. But, you absolutely *have* to read books four, five, six, and seven in order to get the full impact. Here's the order...

3.5 starsI've got some seriously mixed feelings about Karen Marie Moning's *Beyond the Highland Mist*, but let me just say that my 3.5-star rating is actually pretty positive in this case. I genuinely enjoyed most of *Beyond the Highland Mist*, and I'm even thinking of checking out Moning's other Highland novels, even though I've heard this one is the least popular in the series. It definitely suffered from the comparisons I couldn't help but make to the Fever series. It's nothing like those...

Beyond the Highland Mist is the first book I've read by Karen Marie Moning, and it's not a bad introduction to the Highland series, even though it's only loosely connected. Those who know me are aware that I suffer from a sometimes debilitating disorder known as MRBIOs, or Must Read Books In Order syndrome. It's important you understand this about me because I'm about to make a shocking statement: To enjoy this series, you don't need to read the first book. Yes, I really said that, and no, I'm...
