The folklore within *All the Murmuring Bones* propels the characters forward, molds their decisions, and ultimately dictates their destinies. A.G. Slatter masterfully interweaves a narrative of family, power, and the relentless battle to break free from the shackles of the past. Miren, a young woman yearning for freedom, finds herself burdened by the weight of her family's legacy. Presented in three distinct parts, readers accompany Miren as she unearths the truth behind long-buried family secre...

Not a single book by A.G. Slatter doesn't deserve 5 stars. All for you, queen! I've read very mixed reviews of **All the Murmuring Bones**, but I loved it, as much as all her previous books and stories, which, by the way, share a universe (although it's only shown in sporadic mentions, so don't panic). This novel is slow-paced, dark, and very gothic. It features a very particular protagonist, a young woman who has grown up in a mansion by the sea with her grandparents, being the last descendant o...

A haunting gothic fairytale. Miren O'Malley was orphaned at a young age and grew up with her grandparents on an isolated and decaying estate, Goblin Eden. Long ago, her family prospered thanks to a pact they made with a sea deity, offering a child from each generation in exchange for safe passage for their ships. However, many years have passed since the family was able to fulfill their part of the agreement, and as a result, their fortune has suffered. When Miren's grandfather dies, her grandmo...

A delightfully dark fairy tale! "All the Murmuring Bones" captivated me so strongly that I read it without noticing, and I didn't want it to end at all... A.G. Slatter drew inspiration from Irish myths to write this amazing fantasy work, and the title is a reference to William Faulkner's "The Sound and the Fury". Although there are some sinister moments, overall the book is an extremely enjoyable read! The story of Miren from the O'Malley family is filled with exciting magical adventures and a l...

A refreshingly dark fantasy novel, for sure. The atmosphere, interwoven with fairy tales and short stories, is completely captivating. A.G. Slatter uses techniques reminiscent of old stories, like those of the Brothers Grimm, which only adds to the reading pleasure. I didn't particularly *like* the protagonist, but she was a logical and interesting character. And yes, the author treats the reader with respect – not like some aggressively infantilized young adult. If you're looking for compelling...

A.G. Slatter is easily one of my all-time favorite dark fantasy authors. Her writing is so precise, so lyrical, and absolutely brutal when the story calls for it. And it DEFINITELY calls for it here.I'm used to seeing peculiar girls and women in her stories, performing small acts of kindness, wielding subtle magic, and suffering great injustices. This is A.G. Slatter, after all. A long life in her books usually means a bitter existence. But there's also the promise of revenge, and I absolutely l...

This is a beautifully written, incredibly dark fantasy novel – at times, it even borders on horror – from the award-winning author, A.G. Slatter. The language is evocative and powerful, and the story doesn't pull any punches. You'll find classic gothic fantasy elements here: a strange, old house; a family riddled with dark secrets; and various eldritch manifestations. But there's absolutely nothing clichéd about "All the Murmuring Bones." It's outstandingly original in both its ideas and its sto...

DEFINITELY NOT WHAT I EXPECTEDThis book suffers from one major problem: false advertising. I went into reading **All the Murmuring Bones** by A.G. Slatter expecting a gothic fairy tale. It became clear pretty quickly that, while it definitely had the gothic vibe, it was absolutely *not* a fairy tale. There were no real fairy tale elements, and barely any magic (and the little bit that was there didn't really matter to the story). Honestly, it was a huge letdown.👎 What I Disliked 👎Pacing: It to...

'Mark my words, Miren, the O'Malleys are on the rise.'I REALLY liked All the Murmuring Bones by A.G. Slatter. I didn't speed through it like I do some books, but I loved the writing, the setting, and even Miren.'One for the house, one for the Church and one for the sea.'When Miren's grandfather dies, her grandmother Aoife, the last true O'Malley, decides to marry her to her distant cousin to help refill the family coffers. Knowing that her reservations against the match will go unhindered, Miren...

2/4/22: Only $1.99 on Kindle right now! Seriously, grab it!!Okay, so All the Murmuring Bones wasn't quite what I was expecting, but I still ate it up. First-person POV can be a gamble for me, but A.G. Slatter totally nailed it here. I completely fell for Miren’s character and loved getting to experience the story through her eyes. I’d say she's a morally gray character, but I understood her choices and saw her as a kind young woman just trying to do the right thing.I’d call All the Murmuring Bon...
