When I am not writing, I toss tennis balls to my cadre of dogs. My house is filled with books and dogs, you can smell both when you walk in the front door. It's a good smell.I have 36 published novels and am currently writing in the mystery genre. My latest mystery, The Dead of Winter, was a finalist for the Claymore A...

Two of my favourite things.
Short stories and Time Travel tales.

This is about an agency Timeshares that offers trips - in time. The stories are by different authors and are about different eras and events but are all fun.

Of course, some more fun than others but it's sadly under rated in the list of Time Travel books.

Get yourself a copy.

This is an enjoyable little anthology of short stories about a company, Timeshares, Inc., that provides time travel services to tourists. The stories range from the personal to the political and beyond as people explore various aspects of the past with personal motives that run the gamut from noble to far worse. I picked this up used at a KCPL book sale for a buck and it was well worth it.

The editors of this collection imagined Timeshares (a time travel agency) Then they told authors to create short stories that incorporated the Timeshares agency. The results are wide-ranging from complex to simplistic, from earthy to cerebral, from funny to philosophical. I enjoyed them all- some more than others. Stories range from Adam and Eve to the Gutenberg printing press to World War I battles to the real Mona Lisa to Jesus and the lepers, and more. An easy and fun read.

Time wasters

Most of the stories here are quite short, and quite shallow. A few are plain bad. Very little is even memorable enough to comment on.

Like any anthology, Timeshares comprises hits and misses. Mostly the former, for me. What fun it will be if a new VOD series uses the time travel agency as a premise. Netflix, Amazon, anyone?

On a side note, I am formally appealing to any time traveller out there, for a copy of the recording by John Lennon's collaboration with Bonham, Entwistle, Johnson and Strummer.

The not-so-good: What started out as a great sci-fi concept, turned out to be a little less interesting (from a sci-fi standpoint) than orignally anticipated. Most of the stories were written by authors from different genres, making each not only done in a slightly different writing style (to be expected), but also handled the common threads of the book in a completely chaotic fashion (somewhat surprising). Most were period pieces, many only included one or two quick references to anything remot...

Includes my story, "A Night to Forget" by C.A. Verstraete - a woman finds a visit to an exhibit about the Titanic more real than she expected.

Anthologies are always hit or miss for me. Usually if I like the premise then I'm likely to find it harder to enjoy the individual stories. If I am only mildly interested in the premise and picking the book up more for the authors included, I fare far better. Such is the case with Timeshares. Six of the authors listed are of interest to me for various reasons and the premise was interesting enough to garner my attention.Who hasn't wanted to travel back in time? I know I used to dream about trave...

[Full disclosure: I have a story in this anthology. I will not be discussing my story in this review.]Timeshares starts with a simple premise: Where – no, when – would you go if you could go on vacation anywhen in time?Like most people, I’ve been exposed to lots of time travel stories. The 19 stories all imagine the time-vacation agency in slightly different ways, which keeps each story in this anthology fresh. Some stories are action-packed, some are mysteries, and some center on character and ...
