Wow, this book was incredible!I kept hearing about Rebecca Stead's *When You Reach Me* on various book podcasts over the years. I finally picked it up because I needed a shorter audiobook to finish before my vacation, and it was perfect. I didn't realize it was a middle grade novel at first, but it definitely didn't hold back anything for me as an adult reader.Miranda is just your average 12-year-old trying to navigate life in New York City. Her mom is constantly auditioning and practicing for t...

To say those last couple of chapters caught me off guard is an understatement. I’m stunned and (or because of) I found myself getting really emotional towards the end...

Just so good.

I've realized that if I want to be genuinely surprised by a book, I just need to pick up a middle grade novel. It's funny how books aimed at kids often have the deepest meanings. "When You Reach Me" by Rebecca Stead is like a blend of sunshine and sunset – both beautiful and heartbreaking. It's a coincidence, but I'd just finished a sci-fi story about time travel before reading "When You Reach Me". It was technically sound, but I wasn't blown away. This charming little book also deals with time t...

Beautiful, just beautiful! I absolutely loved **When You Reach Me** by Rebecca Stead! The writing style was marvelous, and I adored the main character. So many people told me to read this book, and I finally did. The plot was so different and unique. Here's how I discovered it.2 Days Ago... I was sitting at my desk in Tech class, engrossed in the last book of the Mistborn Trilogy. During the most intense scene, someone poked me on the shoulder. "WOAH," I screamed. I was terrified, but of course...

I almost passed on this one. I knew it was aimed at younger readers, but I didn't realize *how* young. I kept awkwardly searching for it in the teen section (already a bit embarrassed to be seen there). When I realized I'd have to venture into the children's section at Barnes & Noble, I hesitated. The tiny chairs. The colorful foam letters on the floor. The plush toys. Cute, sure, but could one of those books actually hold my attention? It probably deserves more than three stars. But it's tough f...

A super short review, karenstyle!!Someday, I'm going to venture down to the second floor where the kids'/teen section is, and I'm going to grab a whole bunch of books that I like and just shelve them in the adult fiction section. Because the young'uns shouldn't get to hog everything good in this world and also not have to pay rent. Plus, there's something creepy about a 35-year-old man browsing the shelves in teen fiction.* I'm doing everyone a favor here. This book is great. And sure, it won the...

One of the things that always gets me about middle grade books is how much of a punch they pack with so few pages. It's amazing. I guess as adults we tend to over-explain and over-analyze everything. Thank goodness there are authors who can still capture what it feels like to be a kid growing up, with all the pain and wonder that comes with it. Miranda is a sixth-grader living in New York City. Her life seems pretty normal. She has a best friend named Sal, but everything changes one day. Mirand...

Newbery Winner 2010 #2 on Barnes & Noble's Top Ten Children's Books of 2009Maine Student Book Award Nominee 2010-2011I feel like I'm missing something because every other review seems to be five stars. I liked **When You Reach Me** by Rebecca Stead. How could I not, when it references *A Wrinkle in Time* so often? I personally found the mystery to be easily solved. I like how Rebecca Stead weaved the clues in, but I found it to be very obvious and knew from the beginning of the book who it w...

First off, I have to say that A Wrinkle in Time has been my favorite book, or at least one of my very favorites, since I was nine years old, and I’ve never been able to write a true or worthy review for it; I can’t even try. There are dozens, maybe hundreds, of books I wish I’d written. Occasionally, I come across a book I *should* have written. When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead is a book I definitely should have written. It touched me to the core in that incredibly familiar way that seems to co...

I've been struggling with how to start this review. I want to get it just right, to convey exactly what I mean to say. If you've read my reviews before, you know I like a lot of things. Frankly, there's a lot out there to like. So, what I need to do here is show you just how **When You Reach Me** by Rebecca Stead is pretty much one of the best children's books I've ever read. Here's an idea: Haven't heard of **When You Reach Me** by Rebecca Stead? Well, now you have. Go read it. Have you already...
