CHRISTINA'S BOOKREVIEWS“In the end, family is all we have, my dear. You’ll do well to remember that.”RECAPThe Vasser family has built what is to be one of the biggest luxury hotel chains in America. With the 'determination' of each Vasser member, the hotels have flourished. Lincoln, Grant, Madison, and Kennedy are set to take the reins over the business when it's their time. But when a secret, such as murder, is revealed, the Vasser’s aren’t so ready for the storm they are about to encounter. Th...

I really got into this family saga. Grant and Quinn were the heart of the story for me, the characters I was most invested in. Close runners-up are Madison and Kennedy. Madison and her relationship with Cyrus are deliciously twisted, and I'm looking forward to seeing where Madison's allegiance to him takes her in the next installment of the series. I'm quite interested in Kennedy, mostly because she's mentioned so little compared to the other siblings but is often said to be the most like the il...

I've shelved "When Empires Fall" in my romance section, but honestly, that genre tag just doesn't quite capture everything this book is. It's more of a family saga, but don't let that description conjure up images of Jackie Collins or "Dynasty." "When Empires Fall" is definitely not that kind of book. First off, the writing is just phenomenal. It's beautifully crafted, never getting bogged down, and every single word feels perfectly chosen. The story unfolds through multiple points of view, jum...

Finally, a writer who truly gets her characters. The genre of "When Empires Fall" is a tough one to pin down. I've never heard of "family drama" as a genre, but this book might just define it. It's not exactly a mystery, even though there's a murder (or four!) involved, because we know who did it from the start. This was such a wonderful read. This is the kind of book you hope to find when you buy an indie novel. It's well-planned, well-written, well-edited, well-formatted…just well done, Katie J...

This isn't a story for anyone wanting a light, breezy read; it completely sucks you in. A complex saga of family betrayal and deceptive facades is probably the best way to describe Katie Jennings' novel, **When Empires Fall**, as she thoroughly explores the sprawling Vasser family's lives. The constant introduction of new characters will keep you guessing and deeply invested in this intriguing story. If you're seeking a distraction from work or personal drama, this is perfect. Each character ge...

When Empires Fall is a peek behind the velvet ropes, giving you an all-access pass into the lives of the ridiculously wealthy Vasser family, the power players behind a massive hotel empire. The story kicks off with a betrayal that's been simmering for sixty long years, and let me tell you, it's explosive. Katie Jennings doesn't hold back, serving up a delicious cocktail of family secrets and sharp, witty dialogue. This first book introduces us to the key players in the Vasser dynasty: Grant, the...

Ambition, treachery, greed. Without passion, these are just empty words. But Katie Jennings certainly isn't lacking in that crucial ingredient. She masterfully weaves an intricate web of deception and lies. Exhilarating and fresh, When Empires Fall takes the reader on a journey into a world of fabulous wealth. A shallow and frivolous world, to be sure, sometimes lacking in compassion, but never in true emotion. Because, in the end, When Empires Fall isn't so much a story about the rich as it is ...
