Number six in the Lost Fleet series. Geary has been promoted to Fleet Admiral by the Alliance Grand Council, but he’s not exactly jumping for joy over the new title. Under his command, the fleet pushes forward to bring the fight directly to the Syndic home system. Meanwhile, those mysterious aliens are still pulling their usual dirty tricks. In Victorious by Jack Campbell, they’re referred to as the “enigma race,” and honestly, that’s a perfect description.I’m keeping this book review short and ...

3.5⭐ *Updated 02/18/22: Added review and adjusted rating*This is the final book in the original Lost Fleet series and the last one in my 2022 re-read. I'll save the subsequent series for whenever I next feel the need for some cozy space battles :)《Minor Spoiler Alert》Our hero, Black Jack Geary, gives a sound thrashing to the evil 😈 aliens 👽 who've been messing around with the human race and still manages to win the affections of his bloodthirsty true love. Jack Campbell's attempt at romantic d...

Victorious by Jack Campbell offers a solid, if slightly underwhelming, conclusion to the saga. While it wraps up the series, it doesn't quite reach the heights I was hoping for. A decent read, but not a masterpiece. 3 stars.

Two stars is more than generous. 3 out of 10 stars for Victorious by Jack Campbell. This book review highlights exactly why this latest installment fell flat.

This is the final installment in The Lost Fleet series, or at least the conclusion to this specific story arc. If you’ve read any of the previous books, you can probably guess how things wrap up. There’s still one massive unanswered question hanging in the air, and the latter half of Victorious finally starts to dig into that. I’m betting that future books by Jack Campbell will continue this narrative, and I’m definitely looking forward to picking them up down the road.My four-star rating reflec...

The finale of The Lost Fleet saga, Victorious by Jack Campbell, brings a powerful close to the major story arc of time-lost Captain John "Black Geary" and his desperate quest to guide the Alliance fleet home after a disastrous mission left them trapped light-years away behind enemy lines. The fleet successfully returned in the climax of the previous book, so this story focuses on the aftermath and the difficult questions of what comes next. Specifically, it tackles the burning question: is John ...

Okay... great book, great series. I almost dropped my rating to 4 stars because of the ongoing subplot regarding the unspoken love—stifled by duty—that 'Black Jack' (who insists, 'I'm not Black Jack') feels for the Captain. Still, it was handled well enough that I got past it. At least it didn't involve our resident politician, who has been one of the biggest annoyances in this series, and the romance never overshadowed the main plot. Victorious by Jack Campbell remains one of the best military ...

At last – it’s come to this. The final instalment in the Lost Fleet series, except I see there is a new sequence that’s just kicked off with Dreadnaught. Not quite sure what that is about even though I can garner a good guess, but for now, this is where the metal meets the meat. For a final book in a military Sci-Fi series, Victorious by Jack Campbell is perhaps a bit subdued, at first glance. There are none of the huge space battles, which pretty much defined the series up to this point, for th...

Finally, it is over. This series should have been half the size it ended up being. Why? Because it just kept repeating itself. That is the main failing of the author: repetition. All these extra pages were just rehashes of scenes that had already taken place, only swapping in a new noun to pretend it was a different location. It’s the same events playing out over and over, or characters endlessly discussing how the previous event was just like the current one, or—even worse—the author forcing yo...
