Okay, so **Valhalla Rising: A Dirk Pitt Novel** by Clive Cussler is your typical, gloriously silly, preposterous, downright outlandish Cussler novel. But within those 712 pages of pure escapism, there's a delicious nugget that kept me hooked – I absolutely loved it. It's another Dirk Pitt adventure, packed to the brim with entertainment and unbelievable scenarios, but that's what makes it so enjoyable. This is exactly why readers keep coming back for more. Maybe not for eternity, but it's close ...

I listened to the 6-hour abridged audio version of *Valhalla Rising: A Dirk Pitt Novel*, narrated by Ron McLarty, who was excellent. It was jam-packed, and having read other Clive Cussler books, I know a lot was missing, but the short version was perfect for our vacation drive time. Cussler kicks off *Valhalla Rising: A Dirk Pitt Novel* with the Vikings settling on the Hudson River and another period scene set in 1898 where a Navy boat is rammed by an underwater ship. I loved these scenes and wa...

The same old Cussler, but this time with the added aggravation of a repetitive and tired plot. What should be a hallmark by now becomes a worn-out repetition of situations and clichés—basically, a book that's run aground. Even the parallel narrative, which usually allows Clive Cussler to run wild and free through the space-time of the plausible, is bland, banal, and not at all compelling. If you're looking for exciting adventure books, this one might disappoint. "Valhalla Rising: A Dirk Pitt Nov...

Title: Valhalla Rising: A Dirk Pitt NovelAuthor: Clive CusslerDate Published: 2001Pages: 537When the luxury cruise liner Emerald Dolphin, carrying 1600 passengers in opulent style and served by 900 crew members, powered by a revolutionary propulsion system designed by Nobel Prize-winning mechanical genius Dr. Elmore Egan, caught fire and sank, it was initially believed to be an accident – until certain pieces began to fall into place."Illuminated by the ocean of lights from the ship they saw bil...

Another likeable if totally implausible fantasy thriller from Clive Cussler in the Dirk Pitt series (we previously reviewed 'Atlantis Found' on GoodReads back in 2012).This immediate successor to 'Atlantis Found' [#15 in the series] isn't nearly as loopy, but it does manage to weave in Viking settlers to early medieval America and Jules Verne's 'Nautilus,' as well as a vintage dogfight over Manhattan, into a tale of corporate attempts to overthrow the Constitution. There is a lot in these stories...

This feels like a book aimed squarely at young adults – half science lesson, half action-packed adventure. Think a blend of Jules Verne and James Bond, but with a healthy dose of facts that stretch the imagination, a mountain of coincidences, and a somewhat gratuitous body count. The hero is almost *too* smart and strong for my taste, but hey, that's the formula. I'm giving "Valhalla Rising: A Dirk Pitt Novel" by Clive Cussler three stars, mainly for the sheer effort put in. Honestly, it probabl...

Oh dear, where do I even begin with Valhalla Rising: A Dirk Pitt Novel? Maybe with the fact that the highlight of this stupendous, mega-cruise ship is the stupendous, fantastic, indoor shopping mall, whose loss Clive Cussler keeps bemoaning? Would pointing that out be petty? There's clearly a market for this brand of absurdity, as this is Dirk Pitt adventure number 16, and I see the library just got the newest one. Some readers just can't get enough of Clive Cussler's books. I rarely give up o...

This book started out promising, maybe a three-star read. Plenty of action to keep you hooked. Dirk Pitt saves the day, and then... he does it again. And again. And again. It just became overkill, each rescue more unbelievable than the last. Plus, the story's crawling with gorgeous, damsel-in-distress types who gaze at Pitt with starry eyes and happily tidy up his ridiculously amazing museum-house. Honestly, it's a bit much. And to top it off, every single vehicle (and there are tons of them!) g...

I really enjoyed "Valhalla Rising: A Dirk Pitt Novel" as a thriller and action-adventure, but its use of Vikings in the plot felt a bit like 'all bark and no bite.' The very first chapter depicts Vikings settling and discovering North America, an event that doesn't exactly have a cheerful outcome. The bulk of the story centers on cutting-edge water propulsion technologies for massive luxury cruisers, a scientist's revolutionary engine oil, and the corruption and influence wielded by some of Amer...

My first Clive Cussler book, and it’ll be my last. Now, before anyone sends me hate mail about this review, remember, I'm not trying to stop you from enjoying "Valhalla Rising: A Dirk Pitt Novel"; it's just that I personally didn't. Dirk Pitt is just a *bit* much, don't you think? I mean, your super-rare vintage plane doesn't show up for your air show? Call Dirk Pitt! Need to know the *exact* year some submarine went down? He's your man! I won't spoil anything, but I was actually relieved when t...
