Lee Child was born October 29th, 1954 in Coventry, England, but spent his formative years in the nearby city of Birmingham. By coincidence he won a scholarship to the same high school that JRR Tolkien had attended. He went to law school in Sheffield, England, and after part-time work in the theater he joined Granada Te...

I'm devouring this series, just as Jack is jetting from city to city, solving mysteries with his trademark infallibility. I'm listening to the audiobooks, which speeds things up, and once again, we're in the exceptionally capable hands of narrator Jeff Harding. Jack has drifted into a new town and is digging swimming pools by hand, of all things! I couldn't help but chuckle at how we witness all the physical exertion he's putting into this task, sculpting his body of steel, tweaking and peaking...

“What kind of book is this?” he asked. I thought about the answer to that a moment. “What kind of book is this?” he asked again. There are many ways to respond to that question. I should think about this for a second longer. “What kind of book is this?” he asked a third time. It’s the kind of book that has somebody repeating questions a whole bunch of times while other characters ponder things, so if you’re already irritated, you should probably avoid it. Ex-military policeman Jack Reacher...

I swear Lee Child has a formula scribbled down somewhere that looks something like this:1. Remind everyone Jack Reacher is an ex-MP drifter; he’s a towering, powerful, and lethal force – the ultimate tough guy, practically bulletproof.2. Through absolutely no fault of his own, and without seeking it out, Reacher finds himself in deep trouble.3. Introduce a beautiful woman who will inevitably be drawn to Reacher.4. Craft a sadistic and utterly repulsive villain.5. Weave a thriller with enough mys...

Okay, so against all better judgment and my own reservations, I dove into another Jack Reacher novel, making that three in just over two weeks. Was I bored? Did it feel formulaic, like I feared it might? Nope! Actually, I enjoyed *Tripwire (Jack Reacher, Book 3)* by Lee Child the most out of the three I've read so far. A solid story, well-written. Bring on the next one, but maybe in a few weeks, yeah? For those looking for fast-paced thriller book reviews, I highly recommend *Tripwire (Jack Reac...

My track record with Lee Child’s Reacher series isn’t exactly glowing. The first book, and the second one I ever bothered reading, was a truly dreadful rehash of genre clichés and honestly, one of the worst books I've ever suffered through. The other one I read (#7), which comes later in the series, was… better. Passably entertaining, and if you can ignore the author's irritating attempts at clever narrative tricks, not a terrible read.So why did I even bother continuing with the series?Well, th...

4.75/5"Tripwire (Jack Reacher, Book 3)" didn't pack quite as much straight-up action as the last Jack Reacher novel, but the suspense was dialed up to eleven, and it really kept the story humming along. The investigation itself was seriously intense and thrilling. I was constantly guessing and second-guessing myself almost until the very end.Lee Child did it again! Part of me was desperate to know the truth and escape the suspense, but another part of me was dreading turning the page because I w...

This isn't a review, because I just started reading this book, but I couldn't help sharing my irritation.I like Lee Child's storytelling skills, and Jack Reacher is a fun character to read about.Unfortunately, his prose is like fingernails on a chalkboard. Most irritating of all, it's not irredeemably bad, it just needs a good editor. Who *is* Lee Child's editor? Does he even have one?For instance:"Are you Jack Reacher?" the guy asked for the third time.Reacher set his bottle on the table and sh...

Compared to others in the series, this volume offers an intriguing story. Vietnam isn't just a dark stain on US history; it's the pain of parents whose children disappeared, shameful secrets, and the desperate search for answers. Lee Child's *Tripwire* (Jack Reacher, Book 3) really digs into the lingering impact of the war. A worthwhile addition for Jack Reacher fans looking for a compelling thriller.

This is the third Jack Reacher novel by Lee Child, *Tripwire*. My husband and I "buddy" read these books. He absolutely loves Jack Reacher. After reading the first two in the series, I totally get why the Reacher novels are so appealing, especially to guys. There's a ton of detail about guns and weapons, and non-stop action. I enjoyed the first two as well, but not as much as he did. *Tripwire* though? It made me a bigger fan. This one's told in the third person, which I think helped.Jack's in F...

After a run-in with an extremist militia group in the remote northwest of Montana in his last adventure, the third Jack Reacher novel, *Tripwire*, finds the ex-MP digging swimming pools in Key West—about as far from Northwestern Montana as you can get without leaving the United States. When a private investigator from New York named Costello shows up in Key West looking for him, Reacher has no clue who might have sent the guy or why, so he tells Costello he's never heard of Jack Reacher. Reache...
