I particularly love time travel stories, as long as they aren't romance sagas in disguise. "TimeStorm" by Steve Harrison definitely isn't one of those. In fact, you'll need a strong stomach when an unusually fierce storm hits. The convicts below deck are tossed about like rag dolls, covered in the filth of the bilge, vomit, and excrement. The stench gets up your nostrils (really!), the writing is that vivid! Bloody carnage erupts on deck when the convicts escape and attack soldiers and sailors a...

To be honest, I went into TimeStorm not really knowing what to expect. I'm a sucker for time travel stories, but boats and convicts? I'll admit, the setup gave me pause, but I liked how Steve Harrison presented it all. This one might not be for everyone, especially if you don't like stories that switch perspectives a lot. But I thought it was handled really well. Written in the third person, each chapter is titled with the name of the character we're following. Even though there were a lot of P...

This was genuinely a blast!

I could pick it apart and start nitpicking, but honestly, who cares? *TimeStorm* by Steve Harrison was fantastic, a real page-turner that kept me hooked from beginning to end. If you're looking for a fun science fiction book review, look no further than *TimeStorm*!

The premise is so clever, and since I'm a sucker for time travel, *TimeStorm* should have been right up my alley. But somehow, it just didn't quite click for me. I think maybe there were just too many characters making the journey, and it was a bit too much to keep track of. Or perhaps it was the constant POV shifts, especially when there was such a positively charismatic main character just begging to carry the whole book on his own—Blaney, specifically. I don't know. Anyway, I'm giving stars f...

I thoroughly enjoyed this time travel adventure story set on a convict ship approaching New South Wales after a long journey in 1796. I love that the cover of the book looks like an old fashioned, albeit somewhat overblown painting from that era showing a full masted sailing ship being tossed on the high seas. It harks back to the swashbuckling adventures of a C.S. Forrester or Patrick O'Brien novel and sets the scene for the first part of the novel, describing the journey and the characters of ...

TimeStorm is an amazing, thrilling adventure written by the talented author, Steve Harrison. As a debut novel, this account stunned me. I lingered into the wee hours of the morning, unwilling to relinquish my hold upon its pages. If you're looking for a gripping historical fiction book review, look no further. This book is as raw and cutthroat as convict Rufus Redmond, who manages to control a band of desperate criminals with a staggering combination of brute force, gut-wrenching fear, and sava...

Sailing across the oceans from England to New South Wales, Australia, in 1795, the convict ship Marlin was commanded by Captain Cross, with Lieutenants Christopher (Kit) Blaney and Henry Kite as his deputies. Below decks, Rufus Redmond, a massive brute of a man, was feared by all. Filthy, surly, and desperate, Redmond harbored a deep desire for revenge – he would kill Cross, even if it was the last thing he did. As the Marlin approached the New South Wales coast, a ferocious storm struck. Crew ...

4.5★Won on Goodreads First Reads GiveawayWhat a great story!!I'm a bit of a fan of time travel novels, but *TimeStorm* is quite different from what I normally read. Instead of one person slipping back in time to the past, this is a whole ship (crew & convicts) slipping forward to current-day Sydney (well, 2017, so nearly current day), and I really enjoyed it.The prologue (set in 2003) sucked me in, and then it jumps back to 1795, where the story “begins.” Initially, I wasn’t sure if it was going...

Everyone loves a good time travel or time anomaly story. The thing is, they're fiendishly difficult to write and keep believable. Only a truly skilled storyteller can create a plausible mingling of different time periods and maintain the illusion throughout a full-length novel. Steve Harrison possesses that skill. *TimeStorm* is a truly impressive debut. It generates an authentic feeling environment – a convict ship bound for Sydney in 1796 – and somehow translates that environment to modern-da...

The HMS Marlin is nearing the end of its long voyage from England to New South Wales, carrying a cargo of the most barbaric murderers and thieves: convicts destined for a life of servitude. The trip has been harrowing, plagued by terrible weather, and the crew has suffered significant losses. On the horizon looms yet another storm, but this one looks more ominous than any they've encountered before. As the storm surrounds them, the ship is sucked into a whirlpool, and the crew prepares to die – ...
