For me, rating a short story collection is always a balancing act. I have to consider the individual stories themselves and how well they work together as a whole. With *Timeless: The Greatest Time Travel Stories of the 20th Century*, I really enjoyed the introductions to each story. They gave great context about the authors and their common themes without giving away too much about the story itself. The stories were incredibly diverse, which is usually a plus for me. However, in this case, it al...

“Time’s Arrow” "In Arthur C. Clarke’s classic, two brilliant physicists finally crack the mystery of time travel–with appalling consequences." This line tries too hard to sell the story. 3 stars.“Death Ship” "Richard Matheson, author of Somewhere in Time, unveils a chilling scenario concerning three astronauts who stumble upon the conundrum of past and future." Well done. It was a Twilight Zone episode and holds up on rereading, but I didn't personally care much for it. 3 stars.“Yesterday was Mo...

Timeless: The Greatest Time Travel Stories of the 20th Century features sixteen stories, ranging from shorts to novellas, all centered on time travel. You'll find some major names here, from Arthur C Clarke to Ursula Le Guin, familiar even to those who aren't huge sci-fi fans—and others who might be less well-known. Harry Turtledove, the editor (who also provides a very helpful introduction), seems to have arranged the stories to benefit new readers of the genre. He starts with shorter stories, ...

This book is a delightful collection of some of the greatest time travel stories ever published. There are stories both short and long, but always centered on the same theme. They are written by acclaimed authors of the genre such as Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clarke, Connie Willis, and several other great writers. The book is long, but due to the quality of the stories, you won't even notice the time passing. You'll spend hours enjoying the journeys of these characters as they return to the past t...

I'm not usually into science fiction, but time travel? That's my jam. And this book, "Timeless: The Greatest Time Travel Stories of the 20th Century" by Harry Turtledove, had some incredible stories. Reading the original Ray Bradbury story about dinosaur hunting that the Simpsons toaster bit was based on was seriously awesome. "Sailing to Byzantium" was a bit of a long haul, but still interesting. I think "Tranpalanda" was probably my favorite. Now, where did I put my copy of "Timeless: The Grea...

It's tough to give the whole anthology a single rating, seeing as some stories were more of a blast to read than others. But since I'm a total sucker for time travel, I devoured every single one. Like with a lot of short story collections, you sometimes find yourself wishing a particular story was a full-blown novel. At least this anthology, "Timeless: The Greatest Time Travel Stories of the 20th Century" edited by Harry Turtledove, is a great way to discover authors whose novels you might want ...

For over a century, time travel has been a cornerstone of science fiction. Authors like Mark Twain and H.G. Wells laid the groundwork for countless stories that have captivated millions. Assembling a "best of" collection is always tricky: it's subjective, and inevitably leaves out worthy contenders. In this regard, Harry Turtledove and Martin Greenberg have done a commendable job with **Timeless: The Greatest Time Travel Stories of the 20th Century**, selecting a diverse mix of celebrated and un...

I'm making a list of all the stories in *Timeless: The Greatest Time Travel Stories of the 20th Century* so I can remember which authors I want to read more of. Here's my take on each, perfect for anyone looking for time travel book reviews:1. "Sailing to Byzantium" by Robert Silverberg - This was a standout for me. The premise felt truly original, yet it was so character-driven.2. "The Man Who Came Early" by Poul Anderson. - Meh. Honestly, I don't remember a whole lot about this one, so I guess...

Like most anthologies, the stories in "Timeless: The Greatest Time Travel Stories of the 20th Century" range from just okay to absolutely brilliant. Reading through them, I realized that time travel, as a concept, might not be my favorite sci-fi trope. There were more dinosaur encounters and run-ins with imaginary creatures than I really needed. I much prefer stories that dig into the mind-bending possibilities and paradoxes that time travel creates, and the sheer confusion it causes for people ...
