I've devoured quite a few time travel anthologies in my day. "The Time Traveler's Almanac" and "The Mammoth Book of Time Travel SF" spring immediately to mind as recent examples. But Crystal Watanabe's "Time Traveler's Gambit" is the newest addition to a fantastic series of speculative fiction anthologies (The Future Chronicles). It gathers fourteen talented authors working in speculative and science fiction, all tackling the fascinating concept of time travel.
What I loved most about this anth...

The Future Chronicles – The Time Travel ChroniclesAs with all the Future Chronicles, Samuel Peralta has done an incredible job of bringing together some amazing authors, this time exploring the intrigue and science of Time Travel. When reading a collection of short stories like this, you usually find a couple that are excellent, some that are average, and maybe one or two that you don't really enjoy. But this time, it was different. I'd finish one and think it was the best, but then I'd get to th...

A fantastic collection of time travel stories! My absolute favorite was "Shades" by Lucas Bale. The stories are incredibly diverse, ranging from people who can rewind time, to a young girl longing to see her deceased father, to a wormhole leading to an unbelievable destination, multi-universe time travel, cryogenic freezing, and even a death penalty involving consciousness transfer into a prehistoric beast. Then there are future humans trying to warn the past to save the planet. Almost all of th...

“Time. Time is the ultimate drug. We get high on the prospects of the future. And then the past comes and sobers us back up. Such is the cycle of our addiction.”–Ernie Luis, MeddlerAt first, I was wary about writing a review for an anthology. It seemed like a huge undertaking, but then I couldn’t put the book down. And then I really wanted to do this book and the talented authors justice, which loaded the pressure on me. So, here’s my best attempt to touch on each story and each author, because ...

Time travel usually conjures up images of a complex machine zipping us through the ages, but this anthology, Time Traveler's Gambit, reveals there are countless ways to journey through time. It's really opened my eyes to the sheer scope and potential consequences of time travel!I honestly can't pick a favorite story because they're all so unique and captivating. Each one boasts compelling characters and a narrative that just pulls you right in. Some stories are genuinely heart-wrenching, others ...

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thanks for the opportunity! "... it take thirty-two seconds for reality to solidify. So once it's set, you can't go back any further."This collection kicks off with Extant by Anthony Vicino, a real adrenaline rush set in a war-torn world. We've got your regular, "time-locked" humans mixed with the chrono-gifted: Blitzers, Blinkers, and Pausers. Special Agent Kaelyn Kwon, with the help of her fellow Chronos—Maddox, a Blitzer, and Zoe, a Pauser...

Gimme, gimme, gimme.
Okay, let's be real. I'm not even going to pretend I'm being objective here. Crystal Watanabe's *Time Traveler's Gambit* had me hooked from page one. I mean, *hooked*. Like, cancel-all-my-plans, don't-talk-to-me-until-I'm-finished kind of hooked. If you're looking for a new time travel book to obsess over, this is it.
The characters? Impeccably written. The plot? Twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. The romance? Swoon-worthy. Seriously, I need a supp...

I can honestly say I loved every single story in this anthology. Which is rare, because there's usually at least one or two that just don't do it for me. Maybe it was the theme (time travel – what's not to love, right?). But the stories themselves were fantastic; some really made you think, others were pulse-pounding, and a couple were even beautifully written. Simply outstanding!Without a doubt, one of the best books I've read this year! Crystal Watanabe's *Time Traveler's Gambit* is a must-rea...
