Absolutely transfixed. "Time Out of Mind" by John R. Maxim had me hooked from beginning to end. I loved the characters, the vividly depicted old New York City setting, and the intriguing premise. There was just the right amount of action to maintain a compelling narrative pace. Overall, a truly fantastic read. If you're looking for great thriller books, I highly recommend "Time Out of Mind".

Not usually my kind of book, but *Time Out of Mind* by John R. Maxim was so clever and engrossing that I ended up finishing it anyway. It's a shame the ending didn't get any smarter, or the heroes more likable, but I don't regret reading it. In fact, if you're into thrillers, especially Dean Koontz, I think you might get a kick out of this one. All the historical fiction details make it interesting, and worth the high page count, too. It feels a tiny bit dated, but not in any obtrusive way exce...

I'll be honest, I didn't have high hopes for "Time Out of Mind" by John R. Maxim. We packed it for the beach, thinking it would be a typical beach read, and I fully expected to lose interest after 25 or 30 pages. I usually juggle several books at once, but this one grabbed me and became my sole focus for a day and a half. I was so engrossed that others noticed and snatched it up the moment I finished (I wasn't about to share it willingly!). The writing is excellent, the storytelling is wonderful...

My all-time favorite book!!!

I've bought **Time Out of Mind** several times, including a first edition. It embodies the perfect ghost story, along with adventure and some fascinating tidbits of history along the way. I totally admire the heroes and only wish I could actually meet them, but I'm thrilled to share their lives and worlds through this book by John R. Maxim. If you're looking for the best **ghost story book review**, look no further!

This is a book that's really stuck with me. I actually wanted to track down a copy and read it again. So, I did! It's not quite what I remembered – I thought it was more of a straight-up ghost story, or maybe even time travel. But it's still a damn good read. The writing is powerful, and the plot is seriously intricate. I'm particularly fascinated by the point of view John R. Maxim uses; he handles it brilliantly in "Time Out of Mind". Definitely recommend this one if you're looking for captivatin...

This sprawling, intricate novel, Time Out of Mind by John R. Maxim, defies easy categorization, making it a challenge to review. Jonathan Corbin is either plagued by personal demons, experiencing genetic flashbacks, or reliving reincarnations within his own lineage. He shares a perspective with his great-grandfather, Tilden Beckwith, beginning in New York City during the infamous blizzard of 1888 (and no, it's not a cheap imitation of Finney’s work). Tilden discovers that his supposed son is the...

It's not quite the 'ghost story' it's billed as, judging by the quotes on the back of the edition I read. Instead, *Time Out of Mind* by John R. Maxim unfolds as an intriguing mystery. While it occasionally gets bogged down in the minutiae of old school New York City, it ultimately invites you down the rabbit hole with its protagonist, Jonathan Corbin. The story follows Corbin's journey of discovery as he grapples with his fading grip on reality. Every time it snows, he finds himself displaced i...

Jonathan Corbin is losing his mind, reliving the experiences of someone else in the 1880s. Throughout *Time Out of Mind* by John R. Maxim, we learn his memories are ancestral, and a story of love and lies among the bluebloods of old New York unfolds. Family treachery drives the plot forward. The use of real historical figures in supporting roles lends a sense of authenticity to the historical sequences, which are truly the heart of the story. The protagonist's loosening grip on present-day reali...
