H.G. Wells, using his time machine, pursues Jack the Ripper across time to modern-day San Francisco. The Ripper, shockingly, is a sociopathic acquaintance. Against the vibrant backdrop of San Francisco, Wells battles his foe and unexpectedly finds love. This gripping tale inspired the acclaimed film...

This book, Time After Time, had a fantastic storyline that made it incredibly hard to put down at times. I'd rate it even higher, but the author dedicated almost 50 to 100 pages to sexual encounters. I understand some of that was needed (I mean, what do you expect when Jack the Ripper is part of the plot?), but I felt it was overdone in Karl Alexander's Time After Time. That aside, it's an excellent read and a great choice if you're looking for captivating book reviews.

The premise of *Time After Time* is fantastic: H.G. Wells invents a time machine, only for Jack the Ripper to steal it; Wells has to chase him to 1979 San Francisco to stop him. But the novel never quite lives up to that awesome setup. The idea of a 19th-century sci-fi writer exploring a world a century ahead of his time doesn't get the attention it deserves, and the cat-and-mouse game between Wells and Jack is pretty subdued. It's tough to excuse a book so heavily reliant on its location for su...

While "Time After Time" was a hit back in the day, it hasn't exactly stood the test of time. Which is odd, seeing as it's a time travel story that spends a good chunk of its time in 1979. The premise is definitely cool: H.G. Wells hops in his time machine to chase Jack the Ripper to present-day San Francisco. The problem lies in the writing itself, and some clunky attempts to describe sex and attitudes about it. Still, it's a fun thriller, but honestly, I think the movie adaptation of "Time Afte...

I needed something to read on the flight back from Valletta and spotted this in the airport bookshop. I absolutely HAD to buy it. I'm a sucker for Wells "pastiches" – "The Time Ships" is still one of my all-time favorites, and the movie "Time After Time" is a film I genuinely enjoyed, so... I really had no choice, did I? Well, it's just like the movie! What a pleasant surprise! The writing is solid, it's quite entertaining, and it kept me hooked even though I knew exactly what was coming. You ca...

A really fun read! I was totally fascinated seeing how a guy from 1893 coped with 1979, especially reading it from a 2017 perspective! It was actually super nostalgic. I'm endlessly curious about the fact that H. G. Wells, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and Jack the Ripper were all around at the same time! I love stories that imagine them crossing paths. If you're looking for a good time travel book, Karl Alexander's "Time After Time" is definitely worth checking out. A great read for anyone who loves ...

As far as time travel books go, Time After Time is a lot of fun and slips in some pseudo-science and physics hypotheticals when it has a chance. H.G. Wells is an adorable, bumbling outsider throughout his excursion into 1972, and it makes for a lot of hilarious moments, like encountering a taxi cab or fast food for the first time. I also genuinely enjoyed his romantic relationship with modern, working girl Ann, who mistakes his naivety about modern conveniences and culture for British charm. Th...

A very good start, but I couldn't connect with the characters in "Time After Time" by Karl Alexander. As far as book reviews go, this one is simple: the premise is intriguing, and the initial chapters pull you right in. However, I just couldn't find myself caring about the characters enough to fully invest in the story. It's a shame, because Alexander's writing is quite engaging, but the emotional connection just wasn't there for me.

Book club notesInitial circle reviews:D: K summed it up best when he said it was "So easy to put down." The book was frustrating because it had some good ideas, but every time it had the chance to get better, it chose to get worse. There were many, many bad decisions by the writer.S: It started bad and just kept getting worse and worse.E: Was interested in how it would end, but many sections reminded her of "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure." She would give it two stars.JW: It had the potentia...

TIME AFTER TIME, Or, a Case of SerendipityAs a deeply Southern friend of mine might say, I'm a "threat and a hazard" when I hit a tag, garage, yard, or estate sale. Being a book lover, which means I possess not one degree of shame, if I don't see a book at one of those sales, I'll ask the seller if they might have any books I could look at that they'd be willing to part with.Sometimes, I'm met with a scowl and a curt no. Other times, I get the curiously raised eyebrow and the "Dang, why didn't I...

2019Re-Read...and re-loved it! I bought my own copy this time so I could keep it :)I grabbed **Time After Time** at the library because it looked interesting; it seemed to have all the kinds of stories I enjoy in one book. It’s a combination of romance, time-travel, suspense, sci-fi, and a touch of "horror," which isn't usually my thing, but hey, 4 out of 5 ain't bad, I'm game. The year is 1893, and H.G. Wells, science enthusiast and writer, invents a time machine while researching his first novel...
