I was introduced to Nora Kelly in a later installment of the series and immediately found her engaging, largely due to her Indiana Jones-esque nature. Nora possesses a PhD in archeology and is employed by the Santa Fe Archeological Institute, a highly respected organization. The story kicks off when Nora visits her childhood home, inherited after her father's passing years prior. While exploring the dilapidated structure, she's confronted by a stranger clad in animal fur, demanding 'the letter'....

“We realize that we know next to nothing about the Anasazi”“After three decades of mysterious and inexplicable discoveries … we don’t understand their culture, we don’t understand their religion. We cannot read their petroglyphs and pictographs. We do not know what languages they might have spoken. We do not know why they covered the Southwest wit lighthouses, shrines, roads, and signaling stations.”Nora Kelly is a dedicated young archaeologist, figuratively following in her father’s footsteps, ...

This was good! Real goood!! 4.5-5 ⭐ My head hurts so much after I finished reading. It was a very intense and suspenseful read. I'm not sure if I really want to write a full review because I might spoil the surprises. It's best to know as little as possible going in, just that *Thunderhead: A Nora Kelly Mystery* is the first in the Nora Kelly series. Nora works at the Santa Fe Archaeological Institute. The story involves a lost civilization in the southern Utah canyons, a treasure hunt, and, f...

Wow, what a book. Truly fascinating and captivating. The story was well-layered, slowly unearthing bits and pieces (pun intended?). I can’t get enough of Douglas Preston and his books. Looking forward to reading more, and I highly recommend Thunderhead: A Nora Kelly Mystery to pretty much everyone. If you're looking for a gripping mystery novel, this is it.

Hell yes! *Thunderhead: A Nora Kelly Mystery* was an entertaining and thrilling adventure! The last quarter of the book was absolutely gripping; I couldn't put it down! I loved this book because of the setting and the subject matter. I’ve always enjoyed archaeology and the thrill of exploring hidden places, cultures, and religions. It felt very much like reading an Indiana Jones novel, hitting that feeling right on the mark. A group of archaeologists are on an expedition to the caves of Utah to...

Douglas Preston delivers a rousing, suspenseful thriller in *Thunderhead: A Nora Kelly Mystery*, a book you simply can't put down. Building upon previous scenes, the storyline's momentum gains steam as it cunningly cuts its way through chapter after chapter. It's never too much to expect a fitting ending, and that too is delivered in style. All I ask for from any novel is one thing—to be entertained. This book took first prize gloriously. Patraic Kelly, an archaeologist, went missing sixteen ye...

Amazing! Preston & Child have done it again. This book, "Thunderhead: A Nora Kelly Mystery", is soooooo good from page one until the very end. Excitement, suspense, mystery, gore, betrayal, etc.—it's all there, and there's a lot of it! Also, it's obvious that Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child put so much research into their books, but the history parts aren't dry at all; they just make the story even more intriguing! This is a great mystery book.Note: This isn't a Pendergast novel, but it themat...

Under certain circumstances, I'm willing to suspend my disbelief a little bit. Like, "Wait—nobody recognizes Clark Kent because he takes off his glasses, slicks back his hair, and wears his underwear on the outside of his pants? Okay, sure, that makes sense." It's all about context. If you're asking me to accept that a man can fly, obliterate things with heat vision, and lift an elephant over his head without even breaking a sweat, I can cut you some slack when it comes to the rules of common...

This was my gateway drug to Preston & Child. After reading "Thunderhead: A Nora Kelly Mystery", I inhaled every single book they've ever written. It's bursting with smarts and suspense, totally addictive, and the setting is unforgettable – almost a character of its own. A must-read, plain and simple. Plus, they bring back characters throughout their series, not all at once, but you'll see familiar faces pop up here and there. Smithback and Nora, especially, are fantastic in "Thunderhead: A Nora ...
