Erik Daniel Shein's *Thunder: An Elephant's Journey* was such an engaging story! I absolutely loved all the characters, especially Thunder. When Thunder was separated from his mother, I got so worried and just had to keep reading to see if they would find each other again. It really pulled at my heartstrings. It was amazing when Thunder went over to Imani to save her. This gave Imani's father a realization that “they were simply trying to survive the same way he was,” a quote directly from *Thu...

Erik Daniel Shein's *Thunder: An Elephant's Journey* is an adorable children's book perfect for young readers. It entertains while subtly educating them about the challenges animals face in the rainforest. Thunder, a young elephant with a big heart, becomes separated from his mother and herd. On his journey to reunite with them, Thunder encounters a variety of rainforest creatures, including a friendly butterfly, chatty monkeys, Penelope the Parrot, a flamingo, bats, egrets, and a rhinoceros. Thunder: An Elephant's JourneyEven though the characters in Erik Daniel Shein's *Thunder: An Elephant's Journey* are animals, young teens and middle schoolers can glean so many valuable lessons from this novel. When a young elephant is born into the tribe, and the celebrations die down, the mother takes on the crucial role of teaching her calf how to survive. As the mother rejoices and names her newborn Thunder, she begins instructing him, as all elephant mothers do, in how to communicate with h...

This is a truly wonderful book for children. As a retired teacher with 36 years in the Chicago Public School system, I spent so much time searching for great books for my students. I started out having them write book reports based on my questions. Later, I used Accelerated Reader, where the program provided the questions after they finished reading. I really want *Thunder: An Elephant's Journey* by Erik Daniel Shein to be on that list. I received an advance copy of *Thunder: An Elephant's Journ...

Trials, Tribulations, and an Amazing StoryThere comes a time when a book resonates with the issues and emotions you're grappling with in daily life: abandonment, loss, hope, belief. But have you ever imagined that animals might face the same emotions and experience similar things as humans? This book will make you consider that some animals may indeed experience the same emotions as we do. Erik Shein does a brilliant job of showing you this through Thunder and his unlikely friends' eyes. A power...

You’ll be cheering and crying happy tears by the end! *Thunder: An Elephant's Journey* is a story of loss, love, hope, and redemption, and this kind of story is so rare in middle grade fiction. My kids and I choked up on several occasions, but it's so important to teach our children the power of books. This story will make you think and maybe want to change the world for the better. This novel is destined to become a classic, right up there with greats like *Charlotte’s Web*. I'm really hoping...

Thunder is born on a stormy night, surrounded by his herd and his mother. I think Erik Daniel Shein beautifully captured the emotions that elephants have been proven to feel for each other. It really pulls at your heartstrings. As Thunder grows, he and his herd face danger, leading to his quest to be reunited with his mother. Along the way in Thunder: An Elephant's Journey, he meets other animals and makes new friends.I highly recommend this book to everyone. Reading Thunder: An Elephant's Journe...

I received an ARC for Thunder: An Elephant's Journey. After reading it, I instantly fell in love with Thunder, the main character – a pygmy elephant – and his clan. The scenes of poaching absolutely infuriated me. How can such innocent creatures be captured or killed simply for existing? This story needs to be a movie to show the world what's happening to so many species facing decline, threat, or extinction. Thunder would be an amazing mascot for a movement against poaching, with the film actin...

Thunder, an African pygmy elephant, and his herd are captured by poachers, whom the animals call "uprights." When the poacher, Drago, tries to take Thunder away separately, along with Penelope, a parrot, the transport vehicle crashes, freeing Thunder and Penelope. They rush into the jungle seeking safety until they can find his herd. While there, Thunder gets stuck in a hole, and only Soma, the rhino, can help him out. Soma has a few friends of her own: three egrets who keep her company. After S...
