At first, These Broken Stars was giving me major ‘Titanic in space’ vibes. And then it became like ‘Castaway in space.’ And honestly? I’m not mad about any of it.I thought the story was a fun read. The sci-fi aspect isn’t the strongest if you’re comparing it to other books in the genre, but the world-building is cool and the characters are definitely worth getting to know. Amie Kaufman knows how to keep you hooked.I will say, though, by the end, I did find myself asking, ‘What was even the point...

Usually, I’m not a fan of snarky guys—or to be more precise, in real life, I don’t like my men with that much attitude. But in the case of Tarver in These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman, I think it totally worked for him. I really loved the romance between him and Lilac. There was no 'insta-love' here, which was such a relief. It wasn’t quite that at all. I’d call it 'insta-attraction,' but that was it. Hallelujah! If you are looking for a captivating sci-fi romance book review, this story is a mu...

I really enjoyed reading These Broken Stars for the second time! The first time I picked up this book back in 2015, I’m not sure why I only gave it 2.5 stars. I looked back at my old review to see why, but the reasons make absolutely no sense to me now! I loved Tarver and Lilac, and yes, I wanted to smack them both a few times. I usually feel that way about characters, so that’s nothing new. Lilac is the daughter of one of the richest men in the galaxy, while Tarver is a lowly Major who didn't c...

I guess I’m in the minority here :(Let me break down my thought process on this book from the very first time I noticed it on Goodreads, because somewhere along the way, something went really, really wrong. A quick scroll down the page and I can see all my friends giving it four or five stars... but the attraction is completely lost on me.1) The description appears on Goodreads. We are promised science fiction, space, and "a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain." A setting in spac...

Boom. Five stars. You know why? Because I enjoyed the hell out of These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman. You want a detailed breakdown of what happens in this sci-fi read? Look elsewhere. You want me to tell you how gloriously understated yet wholly satisfying this world-building was? Too bad. You want to know why I started losing my mind 70% of the way through? HOW'S IT FEEL TO WANT? This book is everything that makes me keep coming back to the YA category. Because sometimes, sometimes an author do...

This is a wilderness waiting to swallow me; I’d barely make a dent trying to fight it. There are no rules for me to learn, no points to be scored, no bluffs to be called. This is a hell I’ve never imagined. And I think I’m going to die here. Many readers have labeled These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman as an intergalactic Titanic. While there are certainly similarities—especially early on—the parallels to that doomed ocean liner end there. I really enjoyed this book. It is a beautifully written spa...

I can't bring myself to review this just yet. I really enjoyed it, but I’m still struggling to find the right words to describe the experience.

I know I should have been working on Buzz Worthy News instead, which is a major no-no for me, but I simply couldn't help myself. I won't give anything away, but I finished These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman feeling like I was under some kind of spell.

Stay tuned for my full book review closer to the release date.

4.5 stars Here is what you need to know:-- These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman is incredibly original and unlike any other sci-fi book I have ever read. It is leaps and bounds above most YA science fiction, with a unique mood and tone that you rarely find in this genre.-- Much of the book functions as a survival story, so if you enjoy that subgenre (as I do!), this will definitely keep your attention.-- The writing is terrific. Don't let the "Titanic in space" hook fool you; while technically tru...
