I grew up in Texas in the seventies, and although I really wanted to go into writing and film from an early age, my parents (Cuban-American) were NOT on board. They believed there were only three acceptable career paths for a male child: doctor, lawyer, and architect. After a disastrous first year of college pre-Med (too...

Okay, if I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: I *love* scripts. The fact that *The Trial of Joe Harlan Jr. (Talion #0.5)* is adapted from a play is just so cool to me. It's a short read, you can easily breeze through it in an hour or two, and it's so obvious that it comes from a visual medium. There's even an interactive "live performance" of the trial and the transcripts that make up the bulk of J.K. Franko's book. The story kicks off with Kristy basically freaking out about going ...

Loved it
Really enjoyed this book and loved the fact you could watch the trial alongside reading the book. I've never seen anything like this before, but I thought it was an amazing idea and it worked brilliantly with "The Trial of Joe Harlan Jr. (Talion #0.5)" by J.K. Franko. As far as legal thriller book reviews go, this one definitely stands out!

This is where it all started. The result of this trial set the stage for everything that followed, pushing seemingly good people to take justice, and revenge, into their own hands, ultimately turning them into murderers.
This was a brisk read. The bulk of it consists of the court transcript and the final verdict. I truly felt like I was sitting in that jury box, but I'm still wrestling with what my own verdict would have been. Then again, maybe I wouldn't have witnessed that almost imperceptibl...

A fantastic prequel to an already fantastic series!I jumped into "The Trial of Joe Harlan Jr. (Talion #0.5)" after reading "Eye for Eye" and absolutely loved delving deeper into one of the key plots and driving forces behind the entire Talion series. Primarily structured as a trial transcript, this novella, though short, does an excellent job of setting the stage for the events of the first book. Honestly, it doesn't make a huge difference whether you read this before or after the first book. I ...

Let me just say, the marketing for this novella, and the Talion series that's coming, is absolutely brilliant. And honestly? The book more than lives up to the hype. "The Trial of Joe Harlan Jr. (Talion #0.5)" is written like a real trial report – clear, concise, just like you'd expect to see in a real courtroom. J.K. Franko grabs you from page one and nails that feeling of frustration (and, let's be real, sometimes devastation) that the legal system can cause. I devoured it. The subject matter ...

Oh, the courtroom drama! *The Trial of Joe Harlan Jr.* by J.K. Franko is like peeling layers off an onion of legal conundrums, each layer revealing a new facet to the narrative. This legal thriller introduces us to a court scene that feels so real, you'd almost expect a jury summons in your mail. I liked that Franko didn't shy away from presenting the trial transcript style, which, while unconventional, added a layer of authenticity to the unfolding drama.
Now, onto Joe Harlan Junior. The prota...

J.K. Franko's *The Trial of Joe Harlan Jr.* is an intriguing and quite short prequel that introduces us to what seems to be an appealing series (the Talion series). The prequel sets the stage well for what is to come. The writing is crisp, descriptive, and pulls you in. It's largely written in the style of a trial transcript. It's a super quick read that introduces the crime, the jury judgment, and the major players. It's an engrossing narrative that will have you eager to read the whole series....

I just finished reading this novel, and honestly, I felt like I was right there in the courtroom, watching The Trial of Joe Harlan Jr. unfold. J.K. Franko does a fantastic job capturing the tension and unpredictability of a trial. I felt a real mix of sympathy and frustration towards Joe Harlan himself, which I think was exactly what Franko intended when he created him.
As with his other books, the writing is consistent, clear, and to the point. Franko also loves to explore those tricky moral q...

I'm a massive J.K. Franko fan and have devoured all the *Eye for an Eye* books, so it goes without saying that I'm completely invested in these wild characters, this storyline, and how it all unfolds... But in **The Trial of Joe Harlan Jr.**, we get to see the very beginning. We get to witness what *really* happened to Christy, and the way J.K. Franko writes it, you feel like you're on the jury at Joe's trial, able to decide for yourself whether you think he's guilty or not. Considering all the ...

This is the prequel to *Eye for Eye*, which is already out. I haven't read that one yet, but it's definitely going on my TBR list after reading *The Trial of Joe Harlan Jr.*! Not sure if the order matters, but only time will tell...*The Trial of Joe Harlan Jr.* details the trial of one Joe Harlan Jr., accused of a truly heinous crime. We follow the events through a trial report, which basically lays out both sides of the story, along with a witness account. There's also some multimedia content t...
