(A-) 81% | Very GoodNotes: Lots of complications and awaiting fate, kinda *Lolita*-lite, emotions run high (devotional pangs), though it could've been tighter.*Check out progress updates for detailed commentary: Progress updates:12/07/2024 - Preamble(1) Contrary to popular belief, I will occasionally read books other people might be interested in and/or have actually heard of.(2) I'm reading **The Time Traveler's Wife** by Audrey Niffenegger now because one of my goals for 2024 is to read at lea...

I've been putting off writing this review for days because I knew it would be a struggle. There simply aren't enough words to accurately convey how I feel about Audrey Niffenegger's *The Time Traveler's Wife*. If you haven't read *The Time Traveler's Wife* yet, I urge you to do so. You're in for a truly unique literary experience, unlike anything you've encountered before.
What did I love most about this book? The love story, without a doubt. It was utterly enchanting. The two protagonists, Hen...

This is my 400th book review for Goodreads. Wow. I'm either one seriously obsessed or one seriously inspired woman (or both, let's be honest).Apparently, when I hit my 500th review, Goodreads will give me a little encouraging "button" on my profile (they might as well just send me a bookmark), but 400 feels like a big milestone, too. So, I wanted to review a book that I absolutely love but haven't reviewed here before.**The Time Traveler's Wife** is a controversial novel. When my book club discu...

I have mixed feelings about this book. Don't let my 4-star rating fool you; it's purely based on emotion.
Let's start with what I really enjoyed:
I loved the foreshadowing. The sense of knowing something was going to happen, maybe even a glimpse of what it was, but never fully grasping it until both characters experienced the moment. And then all the foreshadowing of the tragic end. Once I started piecing the puzzle together, I couldn't put it down. I had several moments where I was fighting b...

Let me preface this by saying I was genuinely excited to dive into Audrey Niffenegger's *The Time Traveler's Wife*. I had high hopes. Sadly, it fell spectacularly short. The premise had potential to be amazing, but in Niffenegger's hands, it was bogged down by endless, tedious details: grocery lists, street directions, and name-dropping punk bands. I literally found myself saying, more than once, "Okay, I get it!" He buys groceries, he knows Chicago, Clare likes a clean studio, he's a genuine pu...

Why isn't there a zero-star option? I absolutely loathed The Time Traveler's Wife. And yes, I actually finished it. Every single one of its way-too-many pages. But in my defense, it was (stupidly) the only book I brought when I was stuck in the hospital for 24 hours after getting my wisdom teeth out, and when your choices are daytime soaps or this awful book... well, at least I got to the end and confirmed it wasn't worth it. Okay, now that I've gotten that rant out of my system, let me organize...

I'm only adding this book to my list because it annoys me that it popped up on the "most popular reads." Seriously, people, *The Time Traveler's Wife* is terrible. Do yourself a massive favor and pretend you never even heard of it. Consider this your official book review warning!
My short take? It's just no good. The long version is in the following list, which I'm calling "The Problems I Have With *The Time Traveler's Wife* by Audrey Niffenegger."
1. The author can't make up her mind. Instead...

Spoiler alert! Quick version: Drop everything and read this now. Oh my god. Someone should have warned me about reading Audrey Niffenegger's *The Time Traveler's Wife* at work. I've been sitting here sobbing, tears streaming down my face, blurring the words into shimmering black lines. This book is so achingly beautiful that I can't be objective. It hit way too close to home. Honestly, though, even objectively, I can't fault it. What must have been a nightmare to write was woven together seamles...

I recently read *The Time Traveler's Wife* by Audrey Niffenegger and was pretty disappointed. The author somehow manages to turn such an awesome premise (the dude actually time travels!) into something pretty flat and dull. The first hundred pages really hooked me, but after a while I started to get irritated by:1. All the name-checking of hipster-approved bands in an attempt to establish Henry's supposed "punk" cred. He liked the Violent Femmes in 1991. That's why he's so badass? Seriously?2. T...

Life has approximately four perfect things in it.One of them is Cake With Fresh Strawberries. Another of them is Running Errands And Getting Yourself A Little Treat. The third one is Going To A Body Of Water On A Hot Day And Swimming Until You're Very Tired And Then Air-Drying In The Sun.And the fourth one is Time Travel Romance. The two best rom-coms on earth (and I have seen many of them, in a misguided attempt to cure myself of emotionlessness) are About Time and Safety Not Guaranteed. Both are ...
