This anthology is a real feast, a gourmet and gourmand's delight for anyone who loves time travel and stories about bending space. It took me ages to get through it, just nibbling away bit by bit. The VanderMeers clearly know their stuff. If you're looking for the ultimate time travel book, *The Time Traveler's Almanac* is it.

The core concept of *The Time Traveler's Almanac* could have been interesting, perhaps... if it wasn't so relentlessly over-explained. The romantic subplot was intensely cringeworthy, which, honestly, is pretty much what you'd expect when there's barely enough time to flesh out characters in a short story format. Ultimately, the story just didn't warrant the level of melodrama it received. If you're looking for compelling science fiction short story collections, this might not be the best choice...

WTF, seriously?! I mean, *The Time Traveler's Almanac* by Ann VanderMeer... WTF! That's all I can really say. If you're looking for mind-blowing, head-scratching, 'what did I just read' kind of sci-fi, this is it. Seriously, check out this book review if you're into that sort of thing.

Wow... what an absolutely massive achievement! *The Time Traveler's Almanac*: nine hundred pages (give or take) of time-travel stories all packed into a single volume, with what I have to say is a *perfect* title and cover. The back cover calls this book "the largest and most definitive collection of time travel stories ever assembled," a claim that might just be true. Even so, this timeline's edition of Ann VanderMeer and Jeff VanderMeer's anthology does have some noticeable gaps. For instance...

It was really hit and miss with the stories that grabbed my attention. However, that's true of all anthologies, as they represent a single person's interpretation of what's good. Still, The Time Traveler's Almanac offers reasonable value for the price. As far as science fiction anthologies go, this one is worth a look if you're a fan of Ann VanderMeer's curatorial style.

This is a fantastic collection of mostly time travel stories. There were a few I couldn't quite figure out why they were included. But on the whole, some excellent stuff. My favorite stories were: The Time Machine (an extract of) by HG Wells; A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury; Fire Watch by Connie Willis; Under Siege by G.R.R. Martin; The Waitabits by Eric Frank Russell; and the final story in **The Time Traveler's Almanac**, Palimpsest by Charles Stross, was an absolute corker. I loved it. *...

Okay, you're not going to believe this. It was only my second try, but I skipped down to the basement and flipped the relevant gears into action, sending the Time Machine, with myself on board, back in time just a couple of years. The VanderMeers were discussing possible topics for their next anthology when I landed right smack-bang in the middle of their dining table, cutlery and food flying everywhere. Of course, it had the desired effect that I was seeking: it totally disrupted their current...

As the year winds down, we're treated to another massive collection from the VanderMeers and Head of Zeus. Following 2011's award-winning *The Weird* and 2013's *Zombies!*, we now have *The Time Traveler's Almanac*. (Good news for UK readers! For those in the US, you'll need to do a little time traveling of your own, as copies arrive in March 2014.)Time travel anthologies are plentiful, but this one claims to be the biggest. And trust me, as many reviews will point out, *The Time Traveler's Alma...
