DNF at 29%. I just couldn't connect with the writing or the storyline in "The Three Identities of Cate Kay". I found myself rereading sentences multiple times, struggling to understand what they meant. The writing just wasn't flowing for me, and honestly, I didn't care for any of the characters. This one just wasn't a good fit. If you're looking for compelling book reviews, this isn't one of them.

Claiming to be the next Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo? That's a seriously gutsy move. With Kate Fagan's The Three Identities of Cate Kay, the comparison sets the bar sky-high right from the start. So, does it live up to the hype? That's the million-dollar question every book review has to answer, isn't it?

You know what ironically makes readers care about who wrote a book? A pseudonym. 2.5 ⭐ Really? Because that hasn't been my experience at all.If you know me, you know my usual complaint about books is that they have an intriguing premise but lackluster execution. But in this case, we have the opposite problem. *The Three Identities of Cate Kay*'s weak premise makes it hard for the story to go anywhere. And so, in order for interesting things to happen, we're forced to watch characters behave i...

The audiobook was the only thing that kept me hooked. Otherwise, "The Three Identities of Cate Kay" by Kate Fagan felt like it was built around a problem easily solved with a quick Google search. This led to shallow, underdeveloped characters and a weak storyline. The ending alone made me roll my eyes so hard I almost saw my brain. I think the marketing team set the bar too high for readers, drawing comparisons to "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo." Nope, huge mistake! I can see many people pic...

Reese's January pick was a total win for me! It took me a good 30-35% to really get into it (it starts kinda slow, TBH), but once something clicked around that point, I was totally hooked! Read this if you enjoy: multiple points of view, books that bend genres, memoirs/documentary-style storytelling. I really liked this one! I highly recommend the audiobook because it has a full cast of narrators (including Helen Laser, who's one of my faves). The storyline was super unique—you've got an autho...

I just turned the final page of Kate Fagan's beautifully executed, sentimental, and profoundly moving novel, The Three Identities of Cate Kay! This heartbreaking queer love story, interwoven with a compelling coming-of-age journey of self-discovery, courage, and navigating life's darkest moments, truly resonated with me.That being said, I don’t agree with the marketing comparisons to *The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo*—the only real similarity is the presence of a queer leading lady—and it's not...

I almost loved *The Three Identities of Cate Kay*. I'm definitely going to check out more fiction by Kate Fagan in the future – I'm curious to see what she does next! Cate Kay is a massively famous author, but nobody knows who she really is; it's just a pen name. Cass is the real author, but even that's not quite right. She grew up as Annie but ran away from her life and changed her name before writing her huge hit, *The Very Last*.There's a lot happening in *The Three Identities of Cate Kay*—a ...

I really wanted to love The Three Identities of Cate Kay, but ultimately it just wasn't for me. Right now, as I'm writing this review, the book has a 4.17-star rating with 460 reviews, so maybe I'm the odd one out. On paper, this had everything I could hope for – I mean, it's marketed as being for fans of Evelyn Hugo, and I absolutely loved that book. I'm interested in anything even remotely similar. I was lucky enough to receive a physical ARC from the publisher, and I'm so grateful for that be...

Okay, so The Three Identities of Cate Kay by Kate Fagan took me a minute to really sink into, but once I did, it was genuinely touching and sweet. I keep seeing comparisons to Evelyn Hugo, and honestly, besides the fact that both feature lesbian characters (and, okay, one's an actress), I don't get it at all. They're totally different vibes. It takes a little bit to figure out what's actually going on. Basically, this is a fictional memoir of a woman who's known by three different names, each re...

Cate Kay had three identities, and not a single one of them was compelling. If you're looking for captivating book reviews, steer clear of this one.
